It is ‘confirmed’ by multiple sources that the Brooklyn Nets are reportedly ‘unwilling’ to give Kyrie Irving a long-term extension due to his personal decision to not get vaccinated and unpredictable injury history, per @Krisplashed. What’s worse, Kevin Durant hasn’t spoken with the front office since the Nets got swept, per Daily News.

This cannot be good news for Brooklyn.

Based on the information we gathered here, it seems that if Kyrie doesn’t get his long-term deal, he may very well leave Brooklyn. Soon after, Kyrie’s friend KD will soon follow. When this happens, there will be no more title contention for Brooklyn and it would make sense for both parties. Before I get to the new revelation, there is something you should know behind the scenes.

According to heavy, they revealed that both the Brooklyn Nets and Los Angeles Lakers General Managers (Sean Marks & Rob Pelinka) had a “closed meeting” at the NBA Combine event. To get further information about this meeting, Adam Zagoria from the New York Times, first found out about it and stated:

“Nets GM Sean Marks and Lakers exec Rob Pelinka had a meeting at the Marriot Marquis this week at the NBA Combine,” Zagoria said via his Twitter account on May 21. “Unclear what they discussed. Potential trade? Dinner plans? Comparing superstar headaches?”

We don’t know what both general managers are plotting, but there will be a mega roster shakeup this upcoming offseason (trades or free agency). Now back to the revelation part.

A New Revelation Revealed

According to Kristian Winfield from the New York Daily News, the ‘inner workings of the Nets told him that James Harden would leave Brooklyn. The next one to go is Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant.

What a shocking turn of events here!

As a result of this new revelation, the Nets will no longer get past the first round or even make it to the playoffs without both Kyrie and KD. Since we gathered enough evidence as far as a possible conclusion of the Kyrie-KD Nets era, let’s go back and track what happened thus far.

The Short-Lived Trio

Two seasons ago, a disgruntled James Harden requested a trade to arrive in Brooklyn and created the most skilled trio in NBA history (Harden-KD-Kyrie). There were tons of championship expectations for this trio and the Nets organization was feeling themselves.

When it was time for the playoffs to arrive, the Nets cruised past the Boston Celtics in 5 games and battled the eventual champions in Milwaukee Bucks. However, injuries plagued the trio in the Bucks-Nets series. Kyrie was the first to go with an ankle injury. Then comes Harden with a “hamstring” injury to open the game. This left KD all by himself to carry a depleted Nets team in 7 games.

As a result, Kd’s foot was on the line and cost the Nets to advance to the “Eastern Conference Finals”. The following season, New York was experiencing high cases of covid and released a mandate for players who have not taken the vaccine. This prevented players from play-at-home games and can only play away games. Kyrie was one of the players who did not take the vaccine.

Thus, the Nets fall to 11 straight losses, which led to Harden leaving the Nets for the Philadelphia 76ers. After the blockbuster trade of James Harden and Ben Simmons, the Nets were never the same. As the season progressed, both KD and Kyrie struggled to fight for the standings and gave us 50+ point performances for good measure. Eventually, the major took down the mandate and Kyrie was able to play full-time.

When the playoffs arrived, the Nets believed that they can cruise past the same Celtics team that couldn’t beat them in last year’s playoffs. This time around, the Nets got a taste of their own medicine and were swept out of their building.

Takeaways

Based on all of the information we gathered about the Nets and the state of their two superstars Kyrie and KD, the end is near. Very soon, the Nets will experience a roster shakeup we haven’t seen in a very long time. It is time for both the Nets and Lakers to re-tool their team and create a positive environment for all players to enjoy and play.

There shouldn’t be any more drama, uncertainty, or even rumors that can destroy a team’s chemistry going forward.

A change is coming whether the Nets and Lakers like it or not.

As for Kyrie, he will get his long-term deal if traded to his preferred destination. Soon after, KD will follow him.

What does all of this mean for Brooklyn Nets? It means that the era of title contention will soon be over. I would not be surprised if both Kyrie and KD are traded before the new season starts. It will be interesting how this offseason unfolds.

That is all the information I have for you today.
