Welcome NBA fans!

Everything is going well for the Los Angeles Lakers.

They acquired a legitimate top five superstar in Anthony Davis from the New Orleans Pelicans. Then, the Lakers traded their remaining players to the Washington Wizards to clear more cap space. As a result, the Lakers now have $32 million in cap space to work with, which is genius from Rob Pelinka.

Now that the Lakers have a max contract slot available, they can either go after the big fish (Kawhi Leonard or Kyrie Irving) or build some elite role players around LeBron and Davis. Now, Lakers superstar LeBron James welcomes his new teammate, Anthony Davis, with a special gift from him, which is his No. 23 jersey.

According to a report by Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports, LeBron will be giving his No. 23 jersey number to Davis as a gift.

Here is Haynes’ comment on LeBron giving his No. 23 jersey to Davis:

“Lakers superstar LeBron James is gifting Anthony Davis his No. 23, league sources told Yahoo Sports. The league has been notified of the pending jersey change, sources said.”

What makes Anthony Davis so special?

This decision for LeBron makes a lot of sense. Here is the reason why. First, Anthony Davis is one of those players who is willing to buy in and compete to win with any team.

Second, Davis is teaming up with arguably one of the greatest players in our generation in LeBron James. Furthermore, LeBron has never had a teammate of Davis’ caliber. Compared to Kyrie Irving, Anthony Davis can do everything on the floor.

What makes Davis so special is that he can pull up from three, shoot mid-range shots, do crossovers, he is efficient from the field, can shoot free throws well, block shots, can steal, and post-up.

Simply put it, Davis is a “generational” type of player you can build around on your team. I think LeBron sees that, and is willing to give up the “best player in the world” title to Davis.

Giving Davis his number 23 jersey signals the “passing of the torch.” This also makes Davis feel genuinely welcomed by LeBron, and he seems happy about this situation. You can call it whatever you want, but this is a great sign of LeBron having faith in Davis as the next face of the Lakers.

Since LeBron gave away his jersey number, he is expected to wear his old jersey number, which is number six. Remember, when LeBron was with the Miami Heat, he wore number six, and was very dominant. Nobody could guard him with that number on him.

LeBron was simply unstoppable.

What if LeBron brings back the same intensity he brought with the Heat during those four years there?

Plus, if you add Kawhi Leonard in the mix, this Lakers team will win championships for years to come. Honestly, I would love to see the Heat LeBron in Los Angeles. Do you know how much jersey sales “The King” will have next season?

The sales will go through the roof, and they will be ranked number one again. As for Davis, his jersey sales will grow exponentially as a Laker. A lot of changes will happen between now and the start of next season.

Overall, this great gesture from LeBron is the start of something great. Not only for Davis, but for the entire Lakers team going forward. When next season arrives, there will no longer be any trade rumors floating around.

No animosity or jealousy amongst each other.

Let’s just say, Davis will enjoy playing with LeBron.

There will be some egos involved when it comes to the amount of touches each player will have at their disposal. After not making it to the playoffs for the first time since 2005, LeBron is poised to make a huge comeback. Furthermore, a year of rest helps a lot for his body and durability come playoff time.

Plus, Anthony Davis’ game will evolve with LeBron’s game.

Welcome to a new era in Laker land!
