My Thoughts About the 2026 New York Mets
This season wasn't what it seemed and it backfired

Nearly two years ago, I stated that the New York Mets wouldn't make it to the Postseason in 2026 and it turned out that my prediction was correct. President of Baseball Operations David Stearns faced heavy backlash from Mets fans after he let four great players go to other teams: Brandon Nimmo, Jeff McNeil, Pete Alonso, and Edwin Díaz. Fast forward to the 2026 MLB season and the consequences of Stearns making four separate foolish moves have revealed itself. The Mets finished the season with a record of 74-88, placing last in the National League East. Carlos Mendoza was fired after a 34-37 start. Andy Green was named as his replacement and signed a three-year deal after the interim tag was removed on September 23. This was the same team who were two wins away from reaching the World Series back in 2024. Despite the controversy surrounding David Stearns during the offseason in 2025, he's staying put in his role through 2028. So, Mets fans will have to deal with him for a little bit longer. Francisco Lindor and Juan Soto are also staying put, with the latter player being signed through the 2039 season.
The 2025 season for the Mets was memorable (not in a good way), because they went from having the best record in Major League Baseball with a record of 45-24 that June to going 38-55 the rest of the way. Because of their monumental collapse, they ended up missing the playoffs. Translation: they choked on a potential good season. There's no telling if there's going to be a 2027 season, but according to FanGraphs, they predict that the Mets will win between 78 and 82 wins. However, sportsbooks currently don't have any odds to report due to the fact that the current season just ended Sunday. One detail about Andy Green that needs to be mentioned is that he's the 26th manager in the franchise's 60-plus year existence. The Mets last World Series title was back in 1986 and the team celebrated the 40th anniversary of that event this past season. Their last National League East title was back in 2015. To remind everyone, that was the year when they unfortunately lost to the Kansas City Royals in the World Series. As of 2026, this was their last appearance in the Fall Classic. The Atlanta Braves have the most NL East titles with 19, followed by the Philadelphia Phillies with 13, and the Mets with six.
The New York Mets having 26 managers in the last 60-some-odd years is like the Cleveland Browns going through quarterbacks every year. If there is baseball played next season, my prediction is that the Mets will win at least 75 games and miss the playoffs yet again. I've made this prediction, because there's so much dysfunction in the Mets front office. As long as David Stearns is the President of Baseball Operations, I don't see this team sniffing October at this time. As for Bo Bichette, it's uncertain if he'll return to the Mets in 2027. He has declined to speak on the matter or offer any details, but it's hard to tell if he's going to opt out of his contract. Bichette signed a three-year, $126 million dollar deal at the beginning of this year. It would be interesting to see how this will play out as the offseason for the Mets has officially begun and the Winter Meetings set to begin in December.
