My Hopes for WWE's Women's Division on the Road to WrestleMania 38

Detailing my ambitious hopes for possible matches for WWE's female superstars at the Grand Stage

We are officially on the road to WrestleMania, but this diehard women's wrestling fan is left wondering what roles WWE's Women's Division will have at the grand stage. For the third straight year, WrestleMania will be a two-night event, as WrestleMania 38 will take place on April 2 and 3. The grand event being two nights long allows WWE to put together a true supercard, and I think there are many possibilities for the women. WWE's main roster has three championships in their Women's Division: the Raw and SmackDown Women's Championships, as well as the Women's Tag Team Championship, with the current iteration having now existed for three years.

With that, we should see at least three women's matches, but I would think there'd be more. Let's look at the three championships and the possibilities for WrestleMania.

Raw Women's Championship: The latest edition of Raw saw Ronda Rousey appear just two days after winning the fifth annual Women's Royal Rumble Match, and brought up WWE's two main champions: Becky Lynch (who Ronda referred to as "Rebecca") and Charlotte Flair. Becky Lynch appeared, brought up their past, and moments later, Becky demanded an answer--only for Ronda to place the armbar on Becky and tell her to wait until Friday. After Ronda left, Becky was interrupted again by WWE Hall of Famer Lita, who made a challenge to Becky for the title. A very epic match was made, and I myself figured it would be for WrestleMania, only for Lita to reveal that her opportunity would occur at Elimination Chamber...in Saudi Arabia.

So we're getting the match much sooner than we thought. Though Lita will get her shining moment, it's clear that Becky will retain, and one has to believe that we will get the long awaited one-on-one contest between Becky and Ronda at WrestleMania 38. But WWE appears to have other plans.

Ronda Rousey and Charlotte Flair were the last two women left in the Rumble

SmackDown Women's Championship: Could we get Ronda vs Charlotte Flair at WrestleMania 38? That seems to be the plan, according to reports. Ronda and Charlotte were the final two women left in the Women's Royal Rumble, and a day after the event, various reports emerged that WWE's plan is to have Ronda challenge Charlotte for the blue brand's belt. I just have two questions regarding this. One, WHAT?!, and two, WHY?! Though Ronda winning the Rumble takes that spot away from a regular, it made sense due to the belief that we would get Ronda vs Becky at WM. That's the match. That's the story that's been building since WrestleMania 35--at least. But according to the rumored plan, Ronda vs Becky can wait until WrestleMania 39. No, it can't. There is no need to do Ronda vs Charlotte; we got that at Survivor Series in 2018. There's no story here.

Here's what should happen. Ronda should choose Becky Lynch, and then the several weeks leading to WM could be used to build up the perfect contender--in the form of Naomi. It's perfect. Naomi had a WrestleMania moment years ago when she won the Women's Battle Royal, but she's never had the WrestleMania moment. This could be it. Plus, it could be the pinnacle of a year that has seen her on the receiving end of Sonya Deville's evil scheming for so many months, and it would be the ultimate commemoration of a WWE career that has now lasted a decade.

Women's Tag Team Champions Carmella and Queen Zelina

Women's Tag Team Championship: Despite the terrible booking that the Women's Tag Team Championship has been haunted by for so long, WrestleMania has seen the titles defended in very spectacular fashion; including last year's Tag Team Turmoil in Night 1 that led to the winner receiving a title opportunity on Night 2. We could see the same regarding the titles (held by Carmella and Queen Zelina) this year, and I would think it would be either a Fatal Four Way, or a Gauntlet Match. In either event, we could see a mix of regular women and maybe some of the surprises from the Royal Rumble.

Regarding the latter, the Bella Twins have to be involved. I wouldn't put it past WWE to keep the Bellas around and put them in the tag title picture. Same could go for Cameron; we could see a Funkadactyls reunion for that same purpose. Beth Phoenix and Natalya could pair up again. The possibilities are endless.

That covers the main titles, but there are a lot of other factors as well.

NXT Women's Champion Mandy Rose

NXT Women's Championship: Could Mandy Rose return to the main show and defend the NXT Women's Championship at the grand stage? The recent appearances of some of NXT's stars could open the door for that to happen. WrestleMania 36 marked the first time that the NXT Women's Championship was defended at the big event, and we could see it once again. It would be a true WrestleMania moment in more ways than one for Mandy Rose, not only entering WrestleMania as champion, but being the first to defend the NXT Women's Championship in front of an actual WrestleMania crowd.

The surprise entrants of the 2022 Women's Royal Rumble

Women's Battle Royal: I wouldn't mind seeing the Women's Battle Royal return at WrestleMania. The first two such matches took place at WrestleManias 34 and 35, with the respective winners being Naomi and Carmella. The match was the female equivalent of the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal, and was set as a perennial event, as a third match was set to happen at WrestleMania 36. However, that year saw the surging COVID-19 pandemic begin its effect on WWE's shows and big events, leading to the battle royal being canceled. It has not been deemed totally defunct, meaning that we could see the Women's Battle Royal return this year.

This would be a great forum for the Rumble surprises to appear; the Bellas, Melina, Summer Rae, Mighty Molly, among many others mixing it up with the regulars, and maybe a few NXT names such as Indi Hartwell, Kayden Carter, and Elektra Lopez.

NXT Women's Tag Team Champions Gigi Dolin and Jacy Jayne

NXT Women's Tag Team Championship: The Women's Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Tournament will occur for the second straight year, and similar to the Men's Dusty Classic, the winning team in the eight-team tournament will receive a tag title opportunity. Here's an idea: the winners' shot should occur at WrestleMania. Think about it. The NXT Women's Tag Team Championship has never been defended at WrestleMania. This would be the ultimate build for tournament, the titles, and the current champions: Gigi Dolin and Jacy Jayne.

The possibilities for WWE's Women's Division are many when it comes to WrestleMania. I truly hope that I see a lot of these things come to pass come April 2 and 3!
