The history of American basketball is incomplete without naming the famous and all-time great star of the NBA (National Basketball Association), Michael Jordan.

Early Life and Career:

Michael Jordan joined the University of North Carolina in 1981. Named as the college player of the year in sophomore and Junior class before leaving the university for greener pastures.

In 1984 and 1992, he won Olympic Gold medals in Los Angeles and Barcelona, Spain respectively.

Journey with Chicago Bulls:

In the year 1984, Michael Jordan began his professional career with Chicago Bulls. In the very first season 1984-85, he was named as Rookie Player of the Year. After a brief injury, he came back to lead NBA in scoring for seven successive seasons.

After Wilt Chamberlain, he became only the second player to have 3000 points in the 1986-87 season.

Known for his skills of the tenacious shooter, passer as well as defense, Michael Jordan became NBA’s Most Valuable Player five times in the years 1988, 1991, 1992, 1996, 1998. Besides this, he also won 'Defensive Player of The Year' in 1988.

Michael Jordan retired briefly after leading Chicago Bulls to the third continuous championship in October 1993 to pursue baseball but returned to lead Chicago Bulls again in March 1995.

Jordan led the Bulls again won three consecutive championships in the year 1996-1998. In every season he was named Most Valuable Player (MVP) in NBA finals.

He again retired after the 1997-98 season. He came out of retirement in September 2001 and received with much enthusiasm and flare before finally retiring in the 2002-03 season.

Post Retirement:

He became minority owner and general manager of NBA's Charlotte Bobcats (now Charlotte Hornets) in 2006. In 2010, he became the first former player in NBA history, to be a majority owner in one of the leagues.
