Jaliyah Elliott Takes 100-Meter Crown at Penn Relays

The dream season of Jaliyah Elliott continues as she won the 100-meter dash at the Penn Relays, Saturday, April 27.

Elliott made history by becoming the first woman at Youngstown State to be named indoor All-American at this year's NCAA national meet. The top sprinter in the Horizon League showed up at the Penn Relays to compete against runners from the Big Ten, SEC, American Athletic Conference, Big East among others.

On Friday, April 26, she had the fourth best preliminary time (11.74) out of 21 competitors, behind Bethany White of North Carolina Central (11.52), Ashley Seymour of Houston (11.65) and Kasheika Cameron of Jamaica's UTech (11,73). Elliott ran in the same heat as White and Seymour, where she placed third just ahead of Penn State's Brooke-Lynn Williams (11.75).

Saturday's championship race was a different story as Elliott rattled off the top time of 11.60, finishing ahead of White's 11.71, and Cameron's 11.73. Houston's Cecila Tamayo-Garza placed 11.74, ahead of her teammate Seymour's time of 11.75. Clemson's Sarah Hill represented the SEC with a sixth-place finish of 11.83.

Big Ten competitors Oniesha Clark (Rutgers), and Williams were seventh and eighth respectively at 11.89 and 11.99. Big East sprinter Trudy-Ann Williams placed ninth at 12.06.

Elliott entered the weekend ranked 50th in the USA, according to the IAAF's list of top 100-meter dash competitors. Her top time of the season (11.53) leads all Horizon League competitors, as she prepares to compete in the conference championship, May 3-5. Elliott also has the best 200-meter dash time in the Horizon at 23.94. Both times were recorded at the Miami Hurricane Alumni Invitational.

Caisja Chandler Wins 200, Second in 100 at Louisville

The fabulous freshman year of Caisja Chandler rolled on, as she won the 200-meter dash at the Lenny Lyles-Clark Wood Invitational, in Louisville, Kentucky, April 27.

Chandler beat a field of 54 competitors as she clocked in at 23.36. She placed ahead of Ariel Jackson of Lindenwood (23.45). Two other Cincinnati runners also placed in the top eight, as Haisha Bisiolu came in at third (23.72), and last year's 200-meter dash champ Tiona Lattimore placed eighth at 24.19, in her second meet back from injury.

Chandler entered the event 96th worldwide, and 37th in the country according to the IAAF Rankings. Her top time of 23.18 is currently 30th best in the NCAA.

She started her day with a couple of runner-up finishes. She was second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.53, behind first-place Bri'Anna Branch of Southern Illinois. Her teammate Bisiolu also qualified for the 100-meter final, where she placed eighth at 11.85.

The 400-meter relay saw Chandler join forces with teammates Bisiolu, Lattimore, and Faith Banks. They were second with a time of 44.99, behind Southern Illinois' 44.89.

On another note, the Bearcats got strong finishes in the 400-meter dash as Bisiolu placed second at 53.92. Banks and Lattimore were fourth and fifth respectively at 54.24 and 55.04. Kylie Cutlip earned a sixth place finish in the 400-meter hurdles with a personal best time of 1:02.17.

Cincinnati also collected wins in the triple jump, as Irati Mitxelena finished with a mark of 12.67, and Sammy Hentz took the 800-meter run at 2:10.94.

Sha'Carri Richardson Moves to Second Top 100-Meter Time in NCAA Division I

LSU All-American freshman Sha'Carri Richardson clocked in at 11.06 to win the LSU Invitational on April 27.

The time sits as the second fastest in the NCAA behind North Carolina A&T senior Kayla White's finish 11.04, which was recorded at the Florida Relays, March 30. Richardson placed ahead of pro runner, and former Alabama star Quanesha Burks (11.20), as well as a pair of current Alabama sprinters in Daija Lampkin and Mauricia Prieto, who both clocked in at 11.31.

Richardson also moved into sixth in the NCAA in the 200-meter dash with a win at 22.78.

Portious Warren Tops NCAA with Best Shot Put Throw

Alabama senior Portious Warren entered the weekend as the 45th ranked shot put thrower on the planet according to the IAAF, but all that should be changing soon. At the LSU Invitational, April 27, the strong woman made a career-best throw of 18.61, which is now the best in the NCAA.

She passed UCLA's Alyssa Wilson's throw of 18.02, which was recorded eight days prior. Warren's throw is tied for fourth-best in the world, as the Trinidad and Tobago native broke her school record. She was also victorious in the discus with a throw of 53.38.

Thorpe, Beauvais, DeLoach, Geubelle Among Winners at Jesse Owens Classic

Olympian Andrea Guebelle won the women's triple jump at a mark of 13.02 at the Jesse Owens Track Classic in Columbus, Ohio, April 27. She finished ahead of Ohio State senior Mikaela Seibert's leap of 12.72.

Guebelle qualified for the Olympic squad in 2016, when she finished third at the US trials with a jump of 13.95.

Solyn Bliss Won the 100-Meter Dash and Taylor DeLoach Became the Big Ten Leader in Long Jump

Taylor DeLoach won the long jump competition with a personal best mark of 6.35. She currently leads all Big Ten performers with her winning jump, now ahead of Minnesota's Hannah Morris who jumped 6.26 at the Jim Click Shootout, April 6.

MAC reigning indoor and outdoor 400-meter dash champion, Gabriella Beauvais, of Central Michigan, won the 400-meter dash at 53.63, holding off conference rival Micah Johnston of Eastern Michigan (53.95).

Summer Thorpe, Chantel Ray, and Morgan Lewis

Notre Dame's Summer Thorpe earned an impressive win in the 100-meter hurdles at 13.44, as she topped pro runner Chantel Ray's time of 13.48. Thorpe placed second to Ray one week before at the Virginia Challenge. Ray won that race at 13.19, ahead of Thorpe's 13.20.

The race was Casandra Lloyd's first time not winning a heat in the 100-meter hurdles since June 2017, in the semi-finals of the US Championships. Lloyd, last year's Jesse Owens Classic winner, finished third behind Thorpe and Ray at 13.66. Ohio State freshman Morgan Lewis placed fourth at 13.73.

Alexandra Webster won two Class 6A, Region II titles this weekend for The Woodlands High School in Waco, Texas. She claimed the 100-meter hurdles in dominant fashion at 13.62. Webster won the 300-meter hurdles as well at 42.42.
