Los Angeles Angels Fans Can Breathe a Sigh of Relief...Finally!

Longtime owner Arte Moreno finally sells the team

By Mark Wesley Pritchard Published about a month ago • 3 min read

After years of extreme pressure from Angels fans, they finally got their wish as the news of longtime owner Arte Moreno came to his senses and decided to sell the team. The new owner is Stan Kroenke and was sold for a record $4 billion, which won't be approved until sometime in early 2027. The 79-year-old also owns four other professional sports teams, including the Los Angeles Rams. Moreno, who is 80, bought the Angels in 2003 from The Walt Disney Company for $180 million, which made him the first Mexican American owner of a major franchise. Let's learn some facts about this American League West team.

Who Are the Los Angeles Angels?

The Los Angeles Angels were founded in Anaheim, California, in 1961. Over the next six decades, they would go through several name changes, with the last one being the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim from 2005 to 2015. The name Los Angeles is translated to "The Angels" in Spanish. As of 2026, they've won one American League Pennant, which was back in 2002, nine American League West division titles, with their last one being in 2014, and one Wild Card berth in 2002. During Arte Moreno's two-plus decade tenure as owner of the Angels, the team has one World Series title to show for it. They clinched the championship back in 2002. 2027 will mark the 25th anniversary of their World Series win. With baseball potentially not being played next season, there's no word if there are plans to honor the 2002 World Series team. With Kroenke succeeding Moreno as the new owner, fans are hopeful that the team can be successful in the Postseason and win championships.

Mike Trout's Reaction to the News

After the news of Moreno selling the team to Stan Kroenke was made public, Mike Trout gave his two cents on the situation. He expressed high praise towards Moreno and was thankful for being given a chance to live out his dream. Also, he felt optimistic about the future of the organization. The 35-year-old veteran has been with the Angels for 16 seasons and only made one playoff appearance, which was back in 2014. The three-time All-Star has four years left of his 12-year, $426 million dollar contract extension he signed back in 2019. Trout was selected by the Angels in the 2009 MLB Draft. The Angels will miss the playoffs for the 12th consecutive year.

Mike Trout is an example of being completely loyal to his team. Being dedicated and the heart and soul for the Angels for nearly 20 years is something worth acknowledging. Despite suffering numerous injuries over the years, there's no doubt in my mind that he'll be a Baseball Hall of Famer one day. I predict that he'll become a hitting coach for the Angels at some point after his career is over. He's one of my favorite MLB players. Plus, he has a positive attitude, appreciates the fans, and someone that everyone can admire and respect. He never acted entitled or thinks that he's above everyone. Trout speaking highly of Arte Moreno means that he loves playing for the Angels. Him being a positive contributor to the team is one the reasons why he's highly respected in the league.
