Knockouts Championship Match Set for Bound for Glory

After months of build, the dream match between Deonna Purrazzo and Mickie James will officially take place at Bound for Glory

A lot of Knockouts-related news came out of the most recent edition of Impact Wrestling, with the centerpiece being the announcement of an absolute dream match that will take place at Bound for Glory--which is Impact's version of WrestleMania. At the event, Deonna Purrazzo will defend the Knockouts Championship against Mickie James in a match that has been building up since Slammiversary this past summer.

The event saw Deonna successfully defend the title against a mystery opponent, revealed as Thunder Rosa, but afterwards, Mickie James came out and asked Deonna to participate in NWA's EmPowerrr event. Deonna, who felt that she was being disrespected (in her mind) by Mickie, didn't give an answer until a few days later on Impact, which saw Deonna agree to appear. However, Deonna still felt that Mickie was attempting to upstage her, and after defending her title successfully against another legend in Melina at the event, Deonna appeared at NWA73 on the following night and attacked Mickie after her victory against Kylie Rae.

I, and everyone else who saw this unfold, knew that it was a matter of time before these two settled thing in the squared circle, and after a physical confrontation between the pair, Mickie appeared on the latest edition of Impact and made the challenge to Deonna for the title at Bound for Glory. In response, however, Deonna stated that while Mickie is heavily regarded, she herself never really looked up to Mickie, while adding that respect should be earned and not given. So with that, Deonna answered Mickie's challenge with an emphatic, "no." Actually, it was an emphatic "Hell no." Mickie slapped Deonna in response, leading to another brawl, and afterwards, Scott D'Amore came out and stated that Mickie's accolades and efforts in women's wrestling are enough for her to have any match she wanted, so he made the title match for Bound for Glory, much to the extreme dismay of Deonna.

That's not all, folks! Later in the program, Gail Kim (an Impact Hall of Famer) appeared and made an announcement regarding Knockouts Knockdown: an eight-woman tournament will take place at the event. Gail stated that the tournament will consist of four regular Knockouts, with the other four slots being occupied by any other talented names appearing at the event--it could be from AEW, NWA, or elsewhere in the wrestling scene. The segment was interrupted by The Influence, with Tenille Dashwood and Madison Rayne (the latter being very familiar with Gail) wanting a shot at the Knockouts Tag Team Championship, though Gail decided that the pair will face former champions Jordynne Grace and Rachael Ellering in a #1 Contender's match on the next Impact. The winners will face Jessicka Havok and Rosemary at Knockouts Knockdown.

While these matches are the first Knockouts Knockdown bouts to be announced on TV, they are not the first ones overall. The earlier announcement of this event included the first official matches being made: a Knockouts Championship match, and the Daffney Memorial Women's Monster's Ball Match. This gives the event a grand total of four matches so far, though fans can expect more news and announcements for Knockouts Knockdown in the remaining weeks leading up to the event. Speaking of which, it was announced earlier in the week that Veda Scott, who has competed in several different promotions (including Impact and SHIMMER) will serve as the event's play-by-play announcer, Mickie James will serve as the color analyst, and Melissa Santos will be the ring announcer.
