Rutgers' Campbell Moves Up National Rankings

Marshall Women Hold Off Murray State

Marshall won its Marshall Invitational that it hosted, Feb. 13, in Huntington, West Virginia.

The Thundering Herd took on Murray State, Florida International and Ohio University.

Kiera Forde-Richards won the 200-meter dash at 24.93, but it was Murray State who took up most of the top spots in the 60 and 200 meters races. Forde-Richards beat out a field 17 competitors. The next four sprinters were all from Murray State, including freshman Teliyah James who finished at 25.03.

The 60 meters saw Murray State sophomore Kenia Seals finish first at 7.64. Her teammate Jumyia Denning was second at 7.69, followed by James' time of 7.75.

Marshall got wins in the 300 and 400 meters from Ashonti Warner and Mikah Alleyne respectively. The Herd's 1,600-meter relay topped two Murray State relay squads. Jillian King, Brandy Elysee, Taylor Bennett and Sydnei Taylor won with a time of 4:00.71. Brooke Burns scored a victory for Marshall in the weight throw.

Ohio shined in the mile run. Jessica Hartman (5:07.87), Hailey Brown (5:07.99) and Rosie Lamb (5:12.11) finished in the top three. Marshall starred in the hurdles, Herd hurdler Safiyyah Mitchell ran unattached to a first place time of 8.69. Warner and Taylor Robinson placed second and third at 8.79 and 8.80 respectively.

Bowers Leads Youngstown State at Kent Meet

Jahniya Bowers has done it again. Week by week she is getting her times down. At the Kent State University Doug Raymond Invitational she ran 7.48 in the 60-meter dash, which is now tied for 51st in the nation. The sophomore is one of only two sprinters in school history to finish the 60 meters in under 7.40 seconds, when she ran a time of 7.38 on Dec. 6, 2019. She began this season running a time of 7.58 and has dropped her time in each meet this season.

Bowers also won the 200 meters at the meet that was held Feb. 13. She topped teammates Kyndia Matlock (25.36) and Madison Murry (25.54) with a time of 24.77 which is also her best time of the year.

Murry, a freshman, competed in the 60-meter hurdles, running her best time of 8.77 which was a close second to Kent State senior Mi'Angel Daniels' time of 8.75.

Daniels was a part of Kent's winning 1,600-meter relay team along with Alexandria Verbancic, Benja Duff and Ruby Greenwood. The foursome beat Akron's A-team, Ashland and Akron's B-team with a time of 3:55.45. Kent also got a win in the pole vault from freshman Leah Pasqualetti as she cleared a height of 4.13.

Courteney Campbell shines at Big Ten Invite

Rutgers senior Courteney Campbell jumped 1.78 to win the high jump at the Big Ten Indoor Track & Field Invitational, Feb. 12. The mark moved her into a tie for the 16th best jump of the season and is the third best of her career.

Indiana finished first and second ahead of Campbell's teammate in the 600 meters. Maria Anderson won the race at 1:31.74 in front of her Hoosier teammate Shynae Deas who crossed the finish line at 1:32.04. Rutgers Reanda Richards came in third at 1:32.46.

Ohio State's Anavia Battle continued her dominance with wins in the 60 (7.39) and 200 meters (22.88). Her teammate Yanique Dayle placed second in the 60 at 7.45 as another Buckeye Devine Parker was a runner-up in the 200 at 23.89.

Last year's Big Ten champion hurdler Emma Nwofor won the 60-meter hurdles at 8.16 ahead of teammate Alexus Pyles' time of 8.23. Their Michigan rival Theresa Mayanja topped five competitors, which included Pyles in the pentathlon. Mayanja scored 3,662 points.
