World's Fastest Women in 60 meters

Dina Asher Smith running 7.08 on Jan. 29

On Jan. 29, Dina Asher Smith ran a time of 7.08 in Germany. It is currently tied for the fastest time of the indoor season. Javianne Oliver, an American sprinter ran the same time in Poland on Feb. 17. Asher-Smith is from Great Britain. At 25, she has been one of the world's best sprinters over the past half decade. She has won a combined six national indoor and outdoor championships in either the 60 or 100 meters. Asher-Smith also has an Olympic bronze medal as member of Great Britain's 400-meter relay squad in 2016. She won a world championship in the 200 meters in 2019.

Oliver, 26, is also a national champ as she won the United States 60 meters title in 2018. After Asher-Smith and Oliver there is a three-way tie for the third fastest 60 meters finish. Nigeria's Blessing Okagbare, Aleia Hobbs of the United States and Ewa Swoboda have all recorded a 7.10 finish. At 32, Okagbare is still rolling with the best on the planet. The three-time Olympian, won a silver in the 2008 games as a long jumper. She also earned a silver in the 2013 World Championships in the same event. She has won so much for so long that many may have to be reminded that the accomplished athlete was also an NCAA 100-meter dash champ during her days at UTEP in 2010. Okagabare has won 18 Nigerian national championships in either the long jump, 100 or 200 meters.

Hobbs, who turns 25 today (Feb. 24), was an American national champ in the 100 meters in 2018. During that same year she won two NCAA titles in the 100 meters and 400-meter relay, while competing for LSU.

Twenty-three-year old Swoboda won five straight Polish national championships in the 100 meters. She won her fifth 60 meters national indoor championship in seven years on Feb. 20.

Amelie-Sophie Lederer, 26, ran the sixth fastest time in the world at 7.12, when she captured her first German national championship, Feb.20.

Twanisha Terry, 22, is a standout sprinter for USC and she is seventh in the world at 7.13. After Terry, there is another three-way tie for eighth in the world.

Two 24-year-olds, USA sprinter Mikiah Brisco and Switzerland's Ajla Del Ponte along with Jamaican Christania Williams, 26, all crossed the finish line at 7.14 this season.

Last year Brisco won the 60 meters at the indoor championship meet in the United States in 2020. During her college career at LSU, she won NCAA titles in the 400-meter relay in 2016 and 2018. In between those two years she won the 100 meters NCAA crown in 2017.

Swiss sprinter Del Ponte is her country's reigning national champ in the 60 meters and 200 meters. She also won the 60 meters last year as well. Williams was an Olympian in 2016, where she won a silver medal in the 400-meter relay.

The 11th best time in the world (7.15) belongs to both Julien Alfred and Kayla White. A native of Saint Lucia, Alfred is 19 and youngest sprinter in the world's top 15 indoor finisher.

Kayla White, 24, won the NCAA title in the 200 meters back in 2019. She also was an NCAA runner-up in the 60-meter hurdles as well as the 100 meter dash during that year.
