Huge Knockouts Championship Match Set for NWA EmPowerrr

The August 5, 2021 edition of Impact Wrestling was the first one coming off their Homecoming event, which featured a mixed tag team tournament that ended with the debuting Matthew Rehwoldt (the former Aiden English in WWE) and Knockouts Champion Deonna Purrazzo winning and being crowned King and Queen. For Deonna, it's yet another accolade added to her impressive Impact Wrestling résumé, which is barely over a year long! So on Impact, Matt and Deonna celebrated their success, when out came Mickie James, a familiar sight as of late.

Similar to Slammiversary and the Impact after that event, Deonna was displeased with Mickie's appearance, but like every other time, it was on business. Deonna had already agreed to defend her Knockouts Championship at NWA's very first all-women's wrestling event, EmPowerrr, on August 28, and she figured that the identity of her opponent would be a surprise once again. However, Mickie decided to reveal Deonna's challenger for the Knockouts Championship, and that very woman was none other than Melina!

You can imagine my elation over seeing Melina make her very first appearance inside an Impact Wrestling ring! Even better, it was Melina and Deonna, two of my all-time top five in women's wrestling, in the same ring together! The match was made official when Melina signed the contract, meaning that for the first time ever, Melina and Deonna will face off one-on-one, and it will be for the Knockouts Championship! Melina, as we all know, is a former five-time champion in WWE, having captured the WWE Women's Championship three times, and the WWE Divas Championship twice. NWA EmPowerrr will mark Melina's very first opportunity at the Impact Knockouts Championship.

As for Deonna, this is yet another huge match for the reigning champion. Her 2nd run as Knockouts Champion has seen her defeat a long list of collective names, and even retire a Hall of Famer in the form of Jazz. This will be a very contentious build; which could even see Deonna make an appearance on NWA Powerrr to continue their back-and-forth heading into the big event.

In addition, it was announced that Lady Frost will participate in the NWA Women's Invitational, joining Tootie Lynn, Jamie Senegal, and Chelsea Green in the 10-woman tournament. Lady Frost is a new favorite; I've only watched her in a few matches on NWA Powerrr, as well as an Impact appearance as Deonna Purrazzo's opponent, but I love what I am seeing so far. I really love that she gives off a Lufisto vibe; which is huge considering how iconic Lufisto is in the world of wrestling (especially hardcore wrestling). Really can't wait to see Lady Frost in action!

So with three weeks left until the big event, we have Kamille vs Leyla Hirsch for the NWA World Women's Championship set, as well as Deonna Purrazzo defending the Impact Knockouts Championship against the Living Legend herself, Melina. The NWA Women's Invitational is 40% full, and regarding the NWA World Women's Tag Team Championship, it's still unknown what two teams will vie for the resurrected titles. Plus we should see many more singles matches added to what is already looking like an amazing card; maybe AEW's Women's Championship becomes part of the event. The build for EmPowerrr continues, and it'll be absolutely epic! NWA EmPowerrr will kick off an amazing stretch for the promotion, which also includes NWA73, where the winner of the NWA Women's Invitational will challenge for the NWA World Women's Championship.
