For his sake, not club's

Watching Cristiano growing up, you could see many things. Flair, precision, determination, goals, assists … but one thing stood out the most. It was the hatetrate of losing a football match. Even the one that may be seen as the unimportant one. Therefore, Cristiano Ronaldo must leave Manchester United in the summer. In other case, his trophy cabinet may not get any enhancements.

The above statement may be seen as the harsh one, but by looking at some of the facts it is a reality. Manchester United was knocked out of all competitions this year. Furthermore, they are extremely far away from winning a Premier League this season. In fact, they will most likely miss out on qualifying for the Champions League next season as well.

Aged 36, Cristiano Ronaldo was brought in before the season to lift the club to the next level and win football matches and trophies immediately. Not one or two seasons later. Fact. In that phase of his career, you do not bring him to build something for the future. The impact must be immediate.

For this season it wasn’t. Do not get me wrong. The Portuguese proved his worth once again. His 12 goals and 3 assists in the Premier League and 6 goals in just 7 appearances in the Champions League itself are not surpassed by any of his teammates. I will also say that these clubs’ numbers would not be surpassed in 2021/2022 by any of the club’s players if Cristiano Ronaldo didn’t return to Old Trafford. It wasn’t just his goals and assists. He literally carried the team forward in difficult moments. His presence in the dressing room and in training speaks for itself. But it was far from being enough …

So, the Portuguese number 9 actually threw away the season. Mildly speaking. He will be without a trophy for the first time since 2004/2005. His frustrations are therefore justified and easily understandable. However, Manchester United fans won’t like me saying it, the problem can be easily solved.

In order to win any trophies Cristiano Ronaldo must leave Manchester United before 2022/2023 season begin. That’s because:

1. It was generally accepted by former Manchester United players (Gary Neville, Roy Keane, Paul Scholes … ) that before the season began, the Red Devils must solve the striker and right-wing position. To be fair, they did with him and Jadon Sancho. Still, they came short and the highest authorities have no ideas what more can be done to achieve better results.

2. Competing with an amazing trio Manchester City, Chelsea, and Liverpool in all domestic competitions seems like a dead end. Manchester United will have again the painful experience of not even getting close.

3. We can add the exciting Arsenal team which laid the foundation of youth for the future and may capitalize on something real soon. Also, Tottenham finally seemed to be coached right and can come from nowhere in any cup competition. If we add possible surprises and fact that Carabao Cup is mostly played by the reserves, the situation gets even trickier.

4. If United is to miss the Champions League spot, then competing in less attractive European competitions (if any at all) should be no challenge for Cristiano. Moreover, it’s hard to argue that these competitions will be treated as seriously as the Champions League by the club.

5. Ronaldo has suddenly begun to struggle with minor injuries that sideline him for a game or two. That could be the early signs that getting closer to 40 isn’t as easy as it sounds when watching Zlatan Ibrahimović. Therefore, he has maybe less time than he thinks to win any silverware.

6. The Portuguese will probably have 1. I can only think of a couple of clubs that may not be interested in signing him. Otherwise, I think most of the (well-suited) doors are open to him.

All in all, Cristiano Ronaldo is a winner. I believe he is not going to settle for something that isn’t bringing him trophies. Also, he doesn’t have much more time. Therefore, it’s difficult to expect to see Cristiano Ronaldo next season at Old Trafford. However, the possibility always remains, so it will be really interesting to see what one of the best footballers of the world decides.
