CFL Week 10 Recap: Changing of the Guard
A new first place team emerges as the 2026 CFL season reaches the midpoint

Not only are we in the heart of the 2026 CFL season, we are pretty much at the halfway point right now. Week 10 of the CFL season fully placed the campaign into the month of August, while also bringing the season closer and closer to Labour Day Weekend and the rivalry games that come with it. Week 10 got off to a very beautiful start, though I'm just saying that because the Toronto Argonauts won, 33-30, over the Calgary Stampeders on the Thursday outing. It was a tough one, but we did manage to pull it out and stay ahead in the race for second place in the East Division.
Next up, Friday Night Football saw the defending champions Saskatchewan Roughriders against the winless, hapless, and hopeless Ottawa Redblacks. Needless to say, it went about as well as one would expect. 42-20 in favor of the Riders. So the Redblacks are 0-8. Yikes. Though on the bright side, if they have a season like this next year, under the new format, they'd have the #1 pick. The Saturday doubleheader followed, and it began with the battle of first place teams: the Edmonton Elks and the Montréal Alouettes. This was a heated, high-scoring battle between two strong and talented teams, but when it was all said and done, the home team won it; the Alouettes took it, 48-30, over the Elks, who lost back-to-back games for the first time all season.
The second half of the Saturday doubleheader featured the BC Lions and the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, and this made me nervous. The Lions have not been playing good football this season. Seriously, what is up in Vancouver? The Canucks suck enough to get the worst record in the league, but lose the lottery, and the Lions are having a disastrous season. And while this game was close all the way, I didn't really have too much faith in the Lions, until the game went final. BC pulled it out; a 27-24 win, adding to Hamilton's recent struggles.

Ten weeks down, eleven to go, and look who is leading the West Division. The Saskatchewan Roughriders (6-2) took the Western lead, moving past the Edmonton Elks (6-3), who have lost back-to-back games. The idle Winnipeg Blue Bombers moved into third place after Calgary's loss, and the BC Lions now find themselves within close striking distance of a playoff position. As I said, the East race is over. The Montréal Alouettes can actually clinch a playoff spot before Labour Day. The Ottawa Redblacks have one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel. That leaves the Toronto Argonauts and the Hamilton Tiger-Cats vying for 2nd place, and our win in our long waited home opener put us farther ahead of the TiCats for a home playoff game. Speaking of, the Stamps would actually be in via Crossover at this point, and remember, no more crossover rule after this season.
Week 11 will kick off on Thursday, August 13 with a Western battle between the BC Lions and the Calgary Stampeders (on CBS Sports Network), a game that could determine playoff placement. On Friday, August 14, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers will be back in action against the Ottawa Redblacks, and on Saturday, August 15, it's another doubleheader! First off, the Toronto Argonauts and the Edmonton Elks--the two winningest teams in the league--face each other, and next, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats will host the Saskatchewan Roughriders (on CBS Sports Network).
