Boston Celtics will Face Golden State Warriors – NBA Finals 2022

The Boston Celtics will face Golden State Warriors in the NBA Finals beginning today. So, the last time the team was in this position was in the finals in 2010.

When this season was underway in 2021; many people didn’t expect them to be in the playoffs. However,, they have surprised a lot of people, including myself.

In the earlier part of 2021; they certainly didn’t look like the team they are today. To read more about the team’s road to the playoffs; check out my Boston Celtics Exciting Playoff Run post.

After defeating the Brooklyn Nets; they played last year’s NBA Champions, the Milwaukee Bucks.

After going to Game 7 to advance to the Eastern Conference Finals; they faced the Number 1 seed, the Miami Heat. To read more about this series; check out my Celtics v Heat to Meet in Eastern Conference Finals May 2022 post.

In the regular season, the Boston Celtics and Golden State Warriors were 1 and 1. Furthermore, in the last 6 matchups between the two teams; the Celtics have won five of the last 6 games.

But, now the slate is clean.

Thursday, June 2nd – Game 1 – Celtics in San Francisco – 9:00 p.m.

Sunday, June 5th – Game 2 – Celtics in San Francisco – 8:00 p.m.

Wednesday, June 8th – Game 3 – Golden State Warriors in Boston – 9:00 p.m.

Friday, June 10th – Game 4 – Golden State Warriors in Boston – 9:00 p.m.

Monday, June 13th – Game 5 (if necessary) – Celtics in San Francisco – 9:00 p.m.

Thursday, June 16th – Game 6 (if necessary) – Golden State Warriors in Boston – 9:00 p.m.

Sunday, June 19th – Game 7 (if necessary) – Celtics in San Francisco – 8:00 p.m.

Who Becomes the NBA Champions 2022

So, let’s take a look at both the Celtics v Heat series and the Warriors v Mavericks.

In the first place, the Celtics series against the Heat went to Game 7. And, the Warriors beat the Dallas Mavericks in 5 games.

Since this is Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum’s first trip to the NBA finals; will nerves kick in? Or, will they prove to everyone they are the real deal?

Because the Warriors have been in the NBA finals 6 of the last 8 seasons; do they have the advantage? Though they were in the finals almost every year from 2014 to 2019; they haven’t been in the finals for the last few seasons. With many players being out for extended time; some of their younger players rose to the challenge.

In the meantime, the Celtics have played in two back to back series which has gone to Game 7.

In the regular season; the Celtics had the 9th best offense and the number 1 defense.

Since the Warriors have had more time off after defeating the Mavericks; will that benefit them?

The Key for the Celtics to Win

In order for the Celtics to beat the Warriors; they need to force Golden State to turn over the ball.

Moreover, the Celtics need to be more mindful of turning over the ball.

After back-to-back series, I hope the team was able to get some time off to rest and be prepared for this series. Hopefully, the few days off will help them prepare for this matchup.

Indeed, the key will be to keep the Warriors on their toes with their top ranking defense.

Though the Celtics haven’t won a championship since 2008; this year’s team under the first year Coach, Ime Udoka, have been battle tested. And, they have rose to the challenge in each series. From the first half of the season to the second half; they have been the comeback story in the NBA.

In my opinion, I wasn’t a fan of how the Celtics looked in both Game 6 and 7 against the Heat and hoping the few days off benefits them.
