After a disappointing outing in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Ishan Kishan has got off to a dream start in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Leading Jharkhand by example, Kishan smashed 173 off just 94 balls to kick start his campaign. In the Elite Group B match against Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand put up a humongous score of 422 after losing the toss.

Kishan started off watchfully but after losing his partner Utkarsh Singh in the third over, he turned to his breathtaking shots to stable the ship. The young wicketkeeper got to his fifty off 40 balls before unleashing his full potential on the opposition. An array of scintillating shots saw Kishan reach his fourth List A century off just 74 balls. His knock featured 11 sixes and 19 fours.

Apart from the skipper, Anukul Roy chipped in with a handy 78, while Virat Singh and Sumeet Kumar scored half-centuries. Thanks to a team effort, Jharkhand scripted history. 422 is the highest ever total registered in the history of the tournament.

Aditi Hundia’s reaction

Following a great knock, Ishan’s rumored girlfriend Aditi Hundia came with an appreciation post for him. Aditi has regularly posted Instagram stories after Ishan’s top-quality performances. She wrote, “You blew it off!!! Absolute delight. 173 runs off 94 balls.” To top off a fantastic performance, Ishan took 7 catches as Jharkhand won the game by a whopping 324 runs as Madhya Pradesh folded for just 98.

Although he missed a well-deserved double century, these are good signs for Jharkhand who had a horrid season in the SMAT. With the likes of Shahbaz Nadeem, Anukul, Varun Aaron and Virat in the side, the eastern state will be a force to reckon.

Furthermore, with the white ball series against England around the corner, the knock will give a huge boost to Kishan’s chances of donning the Indian jersey. While an impressive IPL season has already put him on the radar, a couple of impressive knocks now will only strengthen his case. With the T20 World Cup knocking at the door, this is a great time to put his case forward for the national side.

Ishan Kishan’ guides Jharkhand for huge victory over Madhya Pradesh:

Jharkhand scored 422/9 after 50 overs in the first inning, thanks to Ishan Kishan’s inning. Middle-order batsmen Virat Singh scored 68 runs off 49 balls and Sumit Kumar 52 runs in 58 balls. But it was Anukul Roy who smashed 72 runs in just 39 balls to help his side past the 400 marks. Gaurav Yadav managed to get 4 wickets but gave away 73 runs from his 9 overs.

It was a massive target for the Madhya Pradesh side who decided to bowl first. Opener Abhishek Bhandari started well but wickets were regular from the other end. Varun Aaron, who was recently released by IPL team Rajasthan Royals, grabbed 6 wickets. Due to his heroics, Madhya Pradesh lost their last man at 98 runs on the scoreboard( 98/10, 18.4 overs), lost by 324 runs.

Ishan Kishan was the hero of the match in the end. His side will be hoping for similar performances from the skipper in the upcoming matches of Group B. With this mammoth win, Jharkhand has signaled other teams for the Vijay Hazare trophy challenge.

India’s T20I squad: Virat Kohli (Captain), Rohit Sharma (vice-captain), KL Rahul, Shikhar Dhawan, Shreyas Iyer, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Rishabh Pant (wicket-keeper), Ishan Kishan (wicket-keeper), Yuzvendra Chahal, Varun Chakravarthy, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Rahul Tewatia, T Natarajan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Deepak Chahar, Navdeep Saini, Shardul Thakur.

BCCI have announced team India’s squad for the five-match T20I series against England and have handed maiden call-ups to the trio of Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan and Rahul Tewatia, all of whom impressed in the IPL. Meanwhile, while the board have recalled Rishabh Pant, Sanju Samson has been axed.
