A Token of Appreciation: Mitch Garver
Showing gratitude towards the now retired catcher and World Series Champion

As the three-year anniversary of the Texas Rangers capturing their first World Series title in franchise history approaches, one player who was part of their success has recently announced his retirement from baseball. On October 21, 2026, Mitch Garver hung up his cleats after 10 seasons, playing for not only the Rangers, but the Twins and Mariners. The 35-year-old concludes his career with a .229 batting average, 497 hits, 110 home runs, and 324 RBI. He's never been named an All-Star, but has won a Silver Slugger Award in 2019.
Born in Albuquerque, New Mexico on January 15, 1991 as Mitchell Lynn Garver, he was drafted in the ninth round of the 2013 MLB Draft by the Minnesota Twins. He made his MLB debut with them in August 2017, where he would spend five seasons. Garver was traded to the Texas Rangers in March 2022 for Isiah Kiner-Falefa and Ronny Henriquez. Two moments that were notable during the 2023 Postseason was hitting a grand slam in Game 2 of the ALDS against the Baltimore Orioles and then hitting a go-ahead single in Game 5 of the World Series, which led the Rangers to clinch their first championship. One month after Fall Classic, he was traded to the Seattle Mariners, signing a two-year, $24 million-dollar deal. Unfortunately, the Mariners missed the playoffs the following season. In 2025, he played 84 games and the Mariners won the American League West for the first time since 2001. They lost to the American League Champion Toronto Blue Jays. During the 2026 regular season, Garver only played 50 games until he was released on August 4, signing with the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders. He played nine games with them, but was never called up to the majors, ending his decade-long career. Garver expressed interest in either coaching or having a job in media.
Mitch Garver was a great contributor to the Rangers journey to capturing their first World Series title and being a outstanding veteran to Jonah Heim, who was the primary catcher, Evan Carter, and Josh Jung, giving them helpful advice. Us Rangers fans will definitely miss him and his presence on the field. We're very thankful and appreciative of Mitch Garver and contributions to the team. He's a World Series Champion and has rightfully earned that label. 10 years in the league and retiring with a ring shows how dedicated and driven Mitch Garver was. Hopefully we'll see him in either a coaching position for an MLB team or as an analyst for MLB Network or some other network in the near future. So, we tip our hats to Mitch Garver for having an amazing career. His feature in my Token of Appreciation series is well-deserved.
The World Series matchup between the Milwaukee Brewers and Tampa Bay Rays will get underway on Friday night. Whoever wins the championship and World Series MVP will be featured in my next Tokens of Appreciation story on Vocal. In case you missed my last story, I'm rooting for the Brewers to win it in six games. As for my pick for World Series MVP, which I didn't make that prediction previously, it would be either Jake Bauers or Jacob Misiorowski, with the latter player being a guaranteed lock to win the National League Cy Young Award. I hope they win it for Bob Uecker, who passed away in 2025, and finally give Brewers fans something worth celebrating, ending their 44-year wait. This would also be a big deal to their Captain, Christian Yelich, and a significant addition to his 14-year career. Win this one for Ueck and for the City of Milwaukee.
