World Series 1998??

Baseball fans looking to find rare and unique items for their mancaves take to EBay regularly to find decorations that can’t be found anywhere else. Memorabilia is a billion dollar industry and EBay is a popular spot for fans to find the kinds of items that make for conversation pieces and status symbols among fans of many baseball teams. With that in mind, I thought it would be fun, being a massive Chicago Cubs fan, to create a guide for Cubs fans looking to find the best and rarest baseball collectibles to lord over fellow fans and establish yourself as the king of baseball fandom.

With that in mind, here are 10 awesome, unique and rare, must have memorabilia for Cubs fans available now on the world’s largest auction site, EBay…

10. 1998 Chicago Cubs World Series Tickets - I know what you’re thinking, the Chicago Cubs didn’t go to the 1998 World Series. They did however, on the strength of pitcher Kevin Tapani’s 19 win season, get to the playoffs where they were swept by the Atlanta Braves to bring an end to their season. That however, did not stop the Chicago Cubs front office from being prepared just in case the team managed to end years of World Series frustration. It didn’t happen but many hopeful fans were nevertheless able to obtain Chicago Cubs World Series tickets before the team was booted from the playoffs and had to wait 18 more years for the chance to see the Curse of the Goat come to an end.

9. 1969 Chicago Cubs Pennant - Prior to 2016 and the end of the Chicago Cubs World Series curse, the thought of owning anything related to the 1969 Chicago Cubs was unthinkable. 1969 was emblematic of the Chicago Cubs curse. The Cubs were the best team in baseball that year until the final month of the season when, out of nowhere, the team fell apart, blew a major lead in the division and were usurped in the final weeks of the season by the so-called ‘Miracle Mets.’ Now however, with the curse behind us, 1969 is a more friendly and nostalgic memory. It’s a part of a 100 plus year journey for the team and fans who can now look back fondly on the time when we were fans of the most futile and fumbling team in baseball history.

8. 1919 Chicago Cubs Team Picture - Talk about conversation piece, a framed photo of the 1919 Chicago Cubs is certainly an eye-catching piece of memorabilia. Regardless of the ancient names on the roster, this 100 plus year old team picture is gorgeous, old-timey photography and graphic design. It’s a beautiful piece that demonstrates the depth of your fandom better than any bobblehead collection you may have amassed, and a great deal less tacky. This is a piece for the sophisticated mancave.

7. Wrigley Field Game Used Chair - Another vintage piece for the sophisticated mancave is a game used chair from Wrigley Field. This chair dates back to the days when the Chicago Bears played Football at Wrigley Field and remained in use at the ballpark through to 2016 and the Chicago Cubs winning the World Series. Just imagine the historic butts this seat has provided comfort too in more than 70 years at Wrigley Field. All jokes aside, a vintage, Wrigley Field chair is a great piece, the vintage look, paired with a Cubs 2016 World Series plaque, makes for a gorgeous display.

6. 1910’s Era Vintage Chicago Cubs ‘Oh You Cubs’ Pin - Fans of old memorabilia love to grab items that have age and a life of their own to them. That makes this 1910’s vintage Chicago Cubs pin so valuable and unique. This is a great mantel-piece item, having face out in a small plastic box, the wear and tear of age demonstrating the vintage, it’s just so cool. The pin itself is gorgeous even with the scratches of years of being tossed into drawers and moved from place to place. It’s a piece of memorabilia history that would look amazing in any collection.

5. The Cubs Song “Hey Hey Holy Mackerel” 45 record - Another vintage piece from the formerly cursed year of 1969, this 45 record is a nostalgia piece like few others. It’s so cool you can play it today and brings about chills of excitement for a day of baseball. The Len Dressler Singers brought this incredible song to life just before the Cubs 1969 season became one of the great disasters in team history. Hey Hey and Holy Mackerel were the catchphrases of then Cubs announcer Jack Brickhouse though he himself is not featured on the record. Check out these lyrics and tell me you don’t get excited for some baseball…

“Hey, hey, holy mackerel,

no doubt about it,

the Cubs are on their way!

The Cubs are gonna hit today

they're gonna pitch today

they're gonna field today

come what may,

the Cubs are gonna win today!

Hey, hey holy mackerel

no doubt about it

The Cubs are on their way

They've got the hustle

they've got the muscle

the Chicago Cubs are on their way!!!”

4. Chicago Cubs 2016 World Series Newspaper Collection - Regardless of the state of the modern newspaper, there are few more iconic items to own as a symbol of your team’s triumph than a newspaper dated the day following a World Series victory and featuring an iconic photo of the team celebrating the biggest moment in Chicago Cubs history. 5 years later finding three Chicago Newspapers intact and display ready is a pretty great find and next to some actual World Series tickets, you have a perfect poster display for your Cubbie themed mancave.

3. Wrigley Field 100 Year Anniversary Beer Stein - A truly great mancave isn’t merely based on the rarity of your collectibles or even their overall value. Design aesthetic is equally important and this Wrigley Field 100 Year Anniversary Beer Stein is a marvel of design. It’s absolutely gorgeous and eye-catching and will look great on any shelf or mantel piece. The stein was made for the 2014 season which was the 100th anniversary of the greatest home field in all of baseball, Wrigley Field.

2. 1985 Chicago Cubs Champagne Bottle - Sometimes having something that is just plain weird in your collection can make for a terrific addition to your mancave. If you want weird, look no further than this 1985, unopened bottle of Chicago Cubs Champagne. The seller claims the bottle was made in anticipation of the Cubs winning the pennant in 1985, not an unlikely possibility after the Cubs just missed making the World Series in 1984. Unfortunately, the Cubs won only 77 games in 1985 and slipped into funk that would last until 1989 and another World Series close call. The age of the bottle, the notion that anyone would be celebrating the 1985 Cubs, makes this piece rare and a little silly, perfect for that weird spot in your Cubs Collection.

1. Chicago Cubs Logoed Swiss Army Knife - One more for the oddity factor. Did you know that in the 1990’s Major League Baseball teamed up with the makers of Swiss Army Knives for team branded, MLB Approved Swiss Army Knives? It’s real, it happened and one EBay seller has one still in the package and perfect for display. It may not seem like much but this is a rare one, and, in this day and age, the likelihood of Major League Baseball putting their logo on anything with a Knife is highly unlikely, even if it is only a utility knife.
