Being a billionaire is something most of us aspire to, but few of us ever will really experience. When you're a billionaire, all the investment options in the world are open to you. You can invest in commodities, in ETFs, or even invest in entire countries!

That being said, most billionaires got that way because they either started companies or invested in the stock market. Quite a few made the greatest stock market trades in history to get the riches they have right now. That's why so many people want to invest like Warren Buffet or invest like Ray Dalio.

The most obvious way to invest like a billionaire is to buy up some of the stocks owned by billionaires—but what are they? We decided to dig around the net to find out.

Herbalife (NYSE: HLF)

Anyone who has ever dealt with a desperate suburban housewife stuck in an MLM chain already knows the name Herbalife. What you might not realize, though, is that it's a publicly traded company on the NYSE stock exchange.

Oh, and it's also one of the more morally dubious stocks owned by billionaires. Carl Icahn, one of the most famous stock market investors on Wall Street, has Herbalife as one of the top three performers in his fund.

You'd never guess it, but Herbalife's business model brings in high profits and has managed to improve every single time there was a recession. Might be due to the unethical hiring methods they use. (Shocking, right?)

American International Group (NYSE: AIG)

Another iCahn favorite is American International Group, a finance and insurance company based out of New York City. The company has been known for being able to survive just about everything and currently employs over 40,000 people worldwide.

Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL)

Surprised to see a mainstream name here? Don't be. This is one of the most popular stocks owned by billionaires, with a multitude of them espousing the perks of being an Apple investor.

Warren Buffet himself is a major shareholder—as is maverick investor David Einhorn. Maybe it's the quality products? Or, maybe it's the marketing. Either way, it's a billionaire-approved share.

PG&E Corp. (NYSEAMERICAN: PCG-A)

One of the most common categories of stocks billionaires own are electric and gas stocks. No matter what electricity company you look at, chances are that there are at least one or two billionaires who have wanted to own that stock at one point.

PG&E Corp., for example, is owned by Ray Dalio. Carl Icahn, on the other hand, prefers CVR Energy (NYSE: CVI) and Sandridge Energy (NYSE: SD). David Tepper also invested in NRG Energy Inc (NYSE: NRG). We're pretty sure others invest in them too.

Wells Fargo (NYSE: WFC)

Known for their stagecoach logo, bright red and yellow lettering, and for having a seriously rapid expansion, Wells Fargo also can now claim that it's one of the stocks owned by billionaires. Warren Buffet recently purchased a large swath of the company, as did Leon Cooperman.

Banks, on a whole, seem to be very popular stock picks among billionaire investors. Cooperman also greenlit Citibank (NYSE: C) as a good purchase last year. Bank of America (NYSE: BAC) has also made the list of stocks billionaires own in recent years.

Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN)

Considering that it's now en route to being the first trillion dollar company in history, is it any surprise that Amazon ends up being one of the top stocks owned by billionaires and hedge fund investors?

George Soros's SEC filings have shown that he recently bought up a bunch of Amazon stocks. The same can be said for Ken Fisher and Joel Greenblatt.

Alphabet (NASDAQ: GOOGL)

Here's another "Well, duh!" stock that billionaires love: Alphabet. This is the parent company of Google, Verity Life Sciences, and a bunch of other major multinationals.

No matter where you are in the world, you've probably used at least one Alphabet product. Considering how ubiquitous the stock is, it makes sense that it's one of the most commonly bought stocks owned by billionaires on this list.

Facebook (NASDAQ: FB)

Oh, Facebook, you evil corporation, you! As the dominant social media platform on the net, Facebook has had quite a bit of billionaire investments in recent years. Almost any billionaire you could imagine has had this stock in their portfolio at one point or another.

David Tepper, Joel Greenblatt, Leon Cooperman, Ken Fisher, and Chris Davis all have shares of this company—and most of them have also bough even more according to their most recent SEC filings.

Caesars Entertainment Group (NASDAQ: CZR)

This one might take you as a shock. Ceasars Entertainment Group, the same company that owns Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas, is a publicly traded company. Now, prepare to get your jaws picked up from the ground: it's also one of the riskiest stocks owned by billionaires.

The obscure company has been picked up by David Tepper and George Soros. Yeah, we're shocked too. Hail Caesar?

Mondelez International (NASDAQ: MDLZ)

Most people might not recognize this name, but trust us when we say you've eaten foods from this giant corporation. If you enjoy Cadbury eggs, any Nabisco cookies, or anything from Freia, then you've enjoyed products under this massive umbrella.

This remains one of the most common stocks billionaires own. David Tepper, Bill Ackman, and Joel Greenblatt all have it in their funds. However, there's something to be noted here: many of them recently reduced their holdings. So, you might want to be careful here.

NVIDIA (NASDAQ: NVDA)

Finally, the last on our list of stocks owned by billionaires is NVIDIA—as in, yes, the graphics card company. In recent years, NVIDIA made a killing thanks to the growth in demand for Bitcoin mining hardware. It's also become a popular way to invest in Bitcoin without owning it.

Billionaires clearly picked up on the trend, and joined in. David Tepper, George Soros, Ken Fisher, and Mario Gabelli are just some of the big names who own it.
