For Wrexham AFC fans, promotion has been at the forefront of everybody’s mind since they were relegated to The National League back in 2008. Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds takeover of the club in 2020 has elevated Wrexham’s promotion dreams into what is now being called “The Fairytale”. In 2021 Phil Parkinson was appointed manager of Wrexham which was seen as many as an unbelievable feat in itself. What followed was the signing of “Super” Paul Mullen and later Ollie Palmer in two major key acquisitions for the club. This bolstered roster was enough to put Wrexham in proper promotion talks only to fall short to Sutton United and then be eliminated in the semi-finals by Grimsby Town with a 5-4 final.

The Super Bowl Champion has been crowned, and with that, another NFL season came to a close, thus beginning the longest offseason in sports. The NBA and NHL take the summer and the month of September off. MLB is off during the winter months, but when the Lombardi Trophy is awarded, the day after kicks off a seven-month offseason, with the NFL Draft being the only relevant blip between the final whistle on Super Bowl Sunday, and the opening kickoff of the following season. For the most part, that had been the case.

While the so-called ‘Greatest of All Time’ (GOAT) debate is not exclusive to football (tennis fans perpetually argue about which of the Roger Federer, Rafa Nadal and Novak Djokovic triumvirate are superior, for example), it seems to be particularly controversial and impassioned in the global soccer realm.

I bleed brown and orange. I grew up on guys like Eric Metcalf, Kevin Mack, Ernest Byner, Webster Slaughter, Michael Dean Perry and Bernie Kosar, just to name a few. I stayed loyal through The Fumble and Red Right 88. I loved them with their 2016 record of 1 and 15. Every Sunday, I hope and I pray and then I cry and then I say, “See you next Sunday,” because they are my team. They are my Browns. Nobody could turn me away. Nothing could shake my resolve. That is, until now.
