#Covfefe Proves Bitter For Trump

Coverage? Coffee? New Hashtag Shows Trump Will Be Slammed For Just About Anything

Ah, autocorrect - President Trump could use you on a regular basis.

After Trump, an avid Twitter user, sent out a 12:06 am tweet that read “Despite the constant negative press covfefe," followed by a 6:09 am post that read "Who can figure out the true meaning of 'covfefe?' Enjoy!," Twitter has been having a field day trying to determine exactly what Trump was talking about, in addition to posting a host of memes and questions.

In tweeting the second post, it appears even the president decided "covfefe" was an opportunity to show he could indeed laugh at himself, but as is usually the way in the world of social media, few were willing to let things go.

Some joked that Google Translate saw it as a Trump attempt to offer his resignation, while others attempted to legitimize the word, albeit in a very tongue-in-cheek way. Zach Braff tweeted an image of press secretary Sean Spicer saying, "Not only is covfefe a word, it's the greatest word ever uttered." He later tweeted that he had to go to sleep, with the admonition to Europe to "keep the covfefe alive," with the quote capped off by an image of a baton being handed from one person to another. Jimmy Kimmel lamented that he would never write anything quite as funny as "covfefe". Twitter user Steven Rankin said that "No parent should ever have to choose if their kid can have #Covfefe or not!!"

One popular theory that has been bandied about is that there had been an effort made to wrest Trump's computer or phone from his grip to prevent him from sending out more problematic tweets than he has done already in the past. While there will almost certainly never be proof of this, it is a theory which has garnered a great deal of humor, with one pundit even posting an image of someone having shot Trump in the butt with what could only be a tranquilizer dart.

For all the jokes, though, there were concerns as to how the initial covfefe tweet of President Trump's somehow managed to stay live for six hours before anyone brought it down. In addition, some are questioning how the post even came to be, given it appeared to have ended midsentence and, in general, Trump has habitually either deleted tweets which have had obvious errors or reposted fresh tweets that are error-free.

Certainly, this is not the first time that Trump has complained of negative press coverage directed at him, and it's widely been considered that it's likely that Trump meant to type "coverage" instead of the now-viral "covfefe." It's also the first tweet that the usually-loquacious Trump sent out after 20 hours; the last tweet he sent before the #covfefe fiasco was about his son-in-law Jared Kushner and his rumored ties to the Russia probe.

What's interesting is that while everyone can admit to their fair share of typos on social media, it appears as though the social media world, at the very least, is going to continue to be very unforgiving of the current United States president. Certainly, they will continue to have fun at his expense, but naturally, given the less than friendly way Trump has been dealing with media of any sort, it would appear he will continue to get lambasted on Twitter.

As a final FYI, if you type "covfefe" into Google Translate, it detects the language as being Samoan. The English translation? Apparently, covfefe. Who knows what it means, but that may very well continue to be the mystery and the question surrounding the Trump legacy at this point.
