What is the Biggest Problem With the World Today?

Is it the government? Is it global warming? Maybe we need to take a good look at ourselves.

There is no doubt that the world is in full-on crazy mode. I can only speak from the perspective of an American but it seems as if it’s all crazy, not just here in the states.

There are many people who would say that it’s Donald Trump and his alt-right followers. Some would say it’s the new left. The radical left, or “libtards” as some would call them.

Maybe it’s global warming or “toxic” masculinity”, or maybe everything listed above is just symptoms. I suppose the four things I listed are simply a start of the things I could list to show how crazy the arguments amongst the common person have become. It seems no one can see eye to eye and everyone is willing to argue about anything. People no longer respect the individual.

There are major problems no doubt such as hunger and war, but these, in my opinion, are symptoms of the main problems. If in fact, something can be traced back to a root cause then by definition the root cause should be considered “the largest problem” even if it’s not as horrible of an act as it may cause. Without one, you simply can’t have the other.

I honestly think that there are two major problems in the world. The biggest problems in my opinion would be political tribalism and a lack of personal accountability. Let me explain.

It’s hard being center politically in a world that has such extreme tribalism. I have friends and family on both sides of the fence and I usually try to refrain from talking too openly around any of them because if you say the wrong thing you instantly become the bad guy that they are talking about.

You go onto social media and it’s always a team event. Neither side can look rationally through the lens of common sense because they are blinded by their tribalism. There are many ways to point out good and bad in both parties but if you ask somebody on the left a question that goes against their beliefs then one of two things happens. They have a reason to justify said action. The other side is simply wrong, it’s fake news or the goto play for the left, you are automatically racist for having a different opinion.

The right is just as bad. They get their info straight from Fox News and regurgitate it straight to you without a second thought because the show lines up with their tribal beliefs. If you down Trump at all you hate America and you are just too stupid to see the truth.

In my opinion, both sides that we have to choose from at the moment are just horrible. When I was watching the presidential debate between Trump and Biden I noticed that the only time that either was telling the truth was when they were talking down about the other. Lying at all other times.

The response to this debate was without a doubt the best example I could come up with on this subject. Everyone I talked to had justifications for their sides and only focused on the bad that the other guy did.

Memes are the worst because one side will post something and yeah it makes sense to me because like I said, I think both sides are just awful... Without fail, I know exactly who is going to respond and in what way based on their political views. One can always use an argument that has nothing to do with what they are talking about in order to make their point but that never helps your cause because it leaves you to open for an attack from the other side.

Political tribalism is the second most dangerous thing that is happening right now. It leaves no room for discussion and only makes people enemies. This country may be on the brink of civil war because both sides are willing to defend their lesser of two evils to the death. The real problem is that political tribalism allows for a complete and utter lack of personal responsibility.

THE MAIN PROBLEM: A COMPLETE LACK OF INDIVIDUALS TAKING PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY.

I would like to start this part by reminding you that we the people outnumber the powers that be. At any point in time, we could stand up and say enough is enough. The world is ultimately in the condition it’s in because of everybody, all the way from the top down. We continue to vote for the lesser of two evils all while knowing no real change will come from it.

Our two-party system has become corrupt because we have let it. I am just as much to blame as you, yes you, for all the problems in the world. I have no doubt or delusions that I have somehow done everything correctly and been a perfect world citizen.

People are comfortable with things the way they are until what is going on directly affects them. We sit in our houses and remain comfortable and eat our fast food while our leaders do horrible things all around the world. We look the other way unless we see things on Facebook and then write a response or post a meme and we think we're being political revolutionaries.

You see if we would stand up for what is right without letting the “leaders” divide us down any kind of line you can think of, we could make real change in the world.

If they can keep us arguing over race and healthcare, guns, and other left and right hot points, how will we ever come together?

My point is we have to stop dividing ourselves because of petty differences. I get that some people just want to watch the world burn, but those people aside, we have to get past the assumptions and the name-calling (and the left is going to hate this) stop changing the definitions of words to suit your cause!

I could go on and on for days with examples, but the solution is what is needed. These are just a few things I believe would help.

Obviously, big government has come to a corrupt point that will soon come to an end with a restart or possibly even all of our deaths. All empires fall. We need to take it back to a more localized government. Give the power directly back to the people by allowing actual votes in your state or even all the way down to the town you live in. You choose what laws directly affect you. Nobody in Maine for example has any reason to tell me what to do in BFE Texas where I live.

The federal government should only be used to deal with and protect us from foreign affairs. I’m not saying that we should put in anymore or even take away any laws but that should be decided more locally. The community you live in can decide for themselves if they are going to allow for say, abortion to legally happen. If you don’t like the laws you can do more to change them on a smaller local scale than how it’s set up now. Also if you choose to you can simply move to a town where your ideals line up.

We’re going to have to give up some comforts if we really care about the environment. Nothing they plan on doing from coal to solar is going to help. Don’t believe me, do the research but it’s all bad. Electric cars to nuclear plants are horrible for everything.

Until they come up with a magic power source that causes no harm, we're going to simply have to depend less on what we got. Back to taking personal responsibility... If we lived in closer tight nit communities and grew our own food and worried less about having the new smartphone and were just happy with what we have then we wouldn't have to spend so much on the power to make and transport the things needed to keep up with demand.

Simply, less is more. If the roads are bad the community can pay for and fix them. Everybody will (if they choose to) helps their fellow person. On a local level, we all work together to feed each other and to keep clothes on the community's backs. Depending on a government to do so only leads to disaster. They can’t manage the money they got much less do anything right on a local level. Personal responsibility… If somebody is hungry you feed him or her…

It all sounds like a pipe dream or a hippie fantasy but if you want the world to be good again you and I are going to have to be the ones to do it. We can no longer sit by and wait for the government to fix all our problems. On the same note if you want the latest smartphone every year and the newest car every year and that’s your first priority then that’s ok but it’s on you. I’m not saying those things are bad but until the world is right we as individuals need to get our priorities straight take personal responsibility and fix things ourselves.
