Welfare Reform

We can do better.

I believe that welfare is the need of a lot of reforms. I believe you should not be able to have an unlimited amount of kids when you were on welfare. If you cannot handle the support of the first child financially, you had no business having six. I believe welfare should be about teaching people how to obtain jobs. I believe in teaching people how to fish, so they can live on their own without public assistance. I think welfare should help more of the working poor. I believe if you were working and you’re struggling to make ends meet, you deserve assistance. I believe the hourly wage should reflect the true cost of living in the area. I don’t believe working at McDonald’s you should get paid $16 an hour, that job is supposed to be a steppingstone on the way to something better; not a career choice. I don’t think people should be rewarded for not working. I believe if you have a legitimate disability, that’s the only reason people should have for not working. I think people accept too much help from the government these days.

A lot of people today lack drive and motivation to become something other than be a welfare leach. We should try to figure out a way to motivate these people into becoming productive members of society. Let them see the value of contributing and let them know that poverty doesn’t have to be their final destination. Let them see the value of a 9-to-5 job over the life of a criminal. We have to stop promoting and glorifying criminal life in publications and TV. No, I don’t believe TV makes people do things they don’t want to do, but making that life look so appealing on TV may be giving some people the wrong impression. And I do think we need to learn to take pride in ourselves again, instead of looking for the easy handout.

I believe some of President Trump's views on immigration are extreme, however, I don’t think he is completely wrong. I believe that we need to focus on our own people and stop giving to these foreign countries and refugees. I do believe that if you are an immigrant who has been working and being an upstanding citizen in the United States, you should get to stay here. The women that turn themselves into baby factories so they can get more money from the government, they need to go. Our welfare system is breaking down because too many people are on it that can’t support their kids, but they keep having kids anyway. Those of the kind of people that don’t need to be on welfare. Welfare is supposed to provide temporary assistance, not being a lifestyle choice for some people.

Somehow, we need to fund a job training program for all ages and skill levels. Investing in our communities can’t be a bad thing. These kinds of programs will have a positive effect on crime, poverty, and unemployment. If we rebuild individual people, then communities will follow suit. Every day, the government spends money on useless crap that will never matter. We need to figure out a way to invest in people instead of political agendas. Oh, too often money which would be beneficial to communities and society gets sacrificed for political politics. Politicians get so wrapped up in this political pissing contest that they forget communities are what make this country great. The government is supposed to help people achieve independence instead of pushing their own view on the world. People striving to do better is what makes this country great.
