In 600 words, I want to do my bit for the #blacklivesmatter movement. If you are at a protest with a sign saying how you’re entitled to a haircut and how you want to buy the most expensive dress in the store, consider yourself one of the lucky ones. Have a think, is your haircut worth more than somebody’s life? Sometimes I find it hard to believe these protesters anout Covid. Sometimes I believe they were hired actors to try and drown out the real problems. There are three big pandemics that I know are three big pandemics happening right now; Covid19, Climate Change and Ignorance. Ignorance comes in all colours and will be the greatest destroyer of them all. Because not enough has been done on climate change and Covid, it’s already too late. Businesses gone bust. Poverty is everywhere and figures of authority are using this to abuse their power in ways more obvious than before. These monsters had no shame kneeling on somebody’s neck taking pleasure in their suffering. They give tear gas out like cotton candy whilst insisting that they are all doing the mighty work of God. Ignorance is the reason why so many are dying right now. And it’s not just the virus, it’s hatred.

Racism should have been extinct ages ago. It shouldn’t even exist. Yet in our current climate, it’s still going on. George Floyd like so many others before and after him was killed for their skin colour by the very people that are meant to keep the peace. They make up fictional crimes to try and justify their cold-blooded actions. We know the truth, they were all killed in cold blood and the President glorifies Police Brutallity. They’ve run out of excuses and we’ve had enough. They shot a child cause ‘he had a toy gun’, they’re cops! Any competent policeman would straight away know the different between a real and a fake gun. Raiding the ‘wrong house’ and stalking drivers till they crash. These are all very real cases that have come to light on my Twitter handle. It is clear that we are nowhere near achieving the dream that Martin Luther King JR has protested for.

There will come a day where the sprits of Martin Luther King, Tupac, George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, James Arcene, George Junius Stinney, Jr. among so many others will be honoured and given the dignity and respect they deserve. Their words, their voices and stories will forever be etched into history and we will not let some great oaf whitewash that history away from us.

Black people have a right to use this hashtag. They are not trying to steal the limelight of Pride Month, nor are they suggesting they are superior to whites, they just want to live a peaceful life without the risk of being killed or raped. #Blacklivesmatter is a hashtag that should be embraced. The incident with George Floyd is not acceptable, but sadly so common. Every single one of these victims deserve a voice and they deserve justice.

Even after all the protests are over, we should still continue our support. Let black people take on higher jobs. Let more black people into mainstream music scenes. Stop whitewashing in general. I find it hard to believe that I have to write this article. It’s just America where this is happening. The UK’s treatment of people during the Windrush Scandal was disgusting. The world is becoming worse in terms of human rights. It’s a shame. I saw something on the news that Black people are more likely to get sick and die from Covid19 than anybody. Regardless of our skin, our blood is still red and our bones are still white. We are much more than people of colour, black or white.
