Trump and The LGBT Lie

Trump tricked and betrayed his way to the Republican nomination, using the LGBT community as a pawn in his scheme.

If there's one thing that Trump can be counted on for, it’s lying and not keeping his word. Has this man kept his word on anything that he promised during the 2016 Presidential campaign? Mexico isn’t paying for the wall, the trade war that he initiated has hurt the very people he swore to protect, and he has the most anti-LGBT administration in more than 30 years. Remember that moment during the Republican National Convention when he swore that he would be a strong advocate for the gays? According to former press secretary, Sean Spicer, it was lip service to make sure he was handed the nomination.

Why would he need to pay lip service to a community that almost never votes Republican? Because there was a group of delegates called “Never Trump” that was working hard to stop the slow train wreck that we are witnessing today. There was a petition that was circulating and had more than enough signatures to be presented to the Convention to stop the travesty that was about to unfold. Some backdoor dealing by campaign chairman, Paul Manafort, set into motion everything that is happening today.

Manafort was so intent on making sure that Trump got the nomination and that the Never Trump-ers never got to present their petition that they resorted to sneaky moves and lies. From Sean Spicer’s new book, “How Manafort and company did this was a scene out of 1950s politics — alternating between carrot and stick and sometimes bat, even, at one point, conveniently making the convention’s parliamentarian unavailable to keep the opposition from formally submitting their petition.” Sounds like a classic Trump move. Remember, he lied and insulted his way to the front-runner position in the primaries. There was only one man in his way from receiving the nomination.

Robert Sinners is a Washington D.C. delegate and the last person that needed to be scrubbed off the petition. When Manafort’s team asked what he wanted, Sinners answered that “he wanted Donald Trump to support gay rights.” Trump gave some nice words at the convention but those were worth about the same as Trump Casino.

As we know, Trump does not care about the LGBT community, or the truth. The last two years of Pride Month went unrecognized by this administration, via Twitter Trump has banned transgender people from being accepted into the military and army, and his executive orders have rescinded protections for LGBT people in the workplace. But he got what he wanted; so no one else matters right?

It’s an argument I had with a now former friend. She was pro-Trump and even when presented with evidence of his wrongdoing, she didn’t care. One day after a while of not speaking she asked if I had come around on “our boy.” When informed that I disliked him more than ever because of his anti-LGBT policies, she was genuinely shocked. For some reason, in her mind, everything he was doing was great for the community and I was suffering from some sort of brainwashing by the left.

Except Trump himself has made no secret of his contempt for anyone who doesn’t like him. CNN is fake news, Hillary Clinton is crooked (even as she is a private citizen and has said she is not seeking political office anymore), his intelligence officers are lying about Russian influence in the election, but Putin is praised. It should not come as a shock that he would not support a community where he is overwhelmingly disliked and ridiculed. As the old saying goes; if you don’t have anything nice to say to Trump, sit next to me.

Trump’s LGBT lie is just another in a string that this administration has forced down our throats. From the inauguration crowds being the biggest ever (every guy on Tinder says the same thing), to them being allies of the gays. Nothing they say can be taken seriously because they wouldn’t know the truth if it poured Trump Vodka over their heads.
