Trumpist Penguines!

The Former Head of MI6, Sir Richard Dearlove, described Trump's potential return to office, as bad news for the UK. Sir Richard was in charge of MI6 from 1999 - 2004.

Sr Richard, speaking to Trevor Phillips on Sky News, said Trump always had problems with NATO. Trump used to say some in the NATO Alliance, consisting of 29 nations, do/did not pay their fair share. In other words, the USA was the top-paying nation and others hardly contributed. Trump, at one stage of his presidency, even threatened to pull out of NATO.

Sir Richard went on that Europe, was dependent, on the US's nuclear umbrella. Even since the days of the USSR and now a Putin dominated Russia. Since Trump was succeeded by Joe Biden, NATO has taken on importance again, since the Russian-Ukraine War.

Asked whether he would stay committed to NATO recently, Trump replied, "It depends on how they treat us"! Ever the unpredictable, ever the maverick, Trump's statement will have some scratching their heads, in NATO.

The United States is a member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation. The other North American member is Canada. Canada is closer to Russia and it has its security issues with Russia. Not ruling out the most northern state of the US, Alaska. Alaska was purchased from Russia by the US, years ago. Today, the Alaskan coast is not far from Siberia, the vast Arctic wilderness controlled by Moscow.

Many thought, that when Russia had conquered Ukraine, Eastern Europe would be next. If Russia had attacked let's say Poland for example, a war between Russia and NATO, would have been triggered. The unspoken mantra of NATO is, "When one nation is attacked, other NATO nations, come to its aid". However, the Russian invasion stalled. Since then, Russia and Ukraine have been slogging it out in the Dombass. Lobbing missiles and drones at one another. The West trained Urkaine's forces and bankrolled their war effort. Ukraine failed to retake that area and the US etc asked, "How long can we keep supporting this war"?

However, Rishi Sunak recently flew to Kyiv to meet Vlodymir Zelensky. The two are like a double act when in each other's company. During the Sunak and Zelensky Show, the warmth between the two leaders was clear to see. Sunak will give Zelensky 2 billion Pounds to carry on the war against Russia. However, as George Galloway has observed, that 2 billion could have gone to ease the problems of the UK.

God only knows what Trump would have done and will do if he is reelected. With Ukraine, would he and will he, stop or hold finances for Zelensky? Will he stop sending weapons?

Certainly, Trump appeared close to Putin, during his time in office, some said, too close. Trump said if he was still in office, the war between Russia and Ukraine, would never have seen the light of the day. He would have told Putin straight - "Don't", in other words, "do not invade or else"? He would have in his own words, got Zelensky and Putin round the table to hammer out a peace deal.

One remembers Trump's meetings with Kim Jong-un (currently test-firing hypersonic missiles). Trump and Kim, seemed to have a bromance, and there did seem genuine hope, of a rapprochement. However, the meetings stopped and both sides went back to being enemies. Trump brought in the 'Abraham Accords' between Israel and Arab/Muslim nations like the UAE. Palestine was offered limited autonomy but the Palestinians rejected it.

Regarding Hamas and Israel, Trump like Biden now, would be utterly pro-Israel. The same events we see unfolding in the Middle East now would be the same under Trump.

So, you see regardless of who the President is, The US support for Israel is unflinching and rock solid. While, Biden, may back NATO as many former US Presidents have, when it comes to Israel, Trump and Biden are at one.

Middle East is just the playground of the big guys challenging themselves indirectly. Imagine how it would have gone were Trump I be President now? He would have said something to inflame it more.
