Lame Duck President Donald J. Trump and President-elect Joe Biden

More than two months after the 2020 United States Presidential Election, with no sign of outgoing President Donald J. Trump accepting he lost, the lame duck continues to divide the American people.

A pro-Trump mob, as people in various countries saw reported in the news, breached the US Capitol building on Wednesday afternoon.

“The scenes of chaos at the Capitol do not reflect a true America,” President-elect Joe Biden said.

Storming the Capitol Building was obviously not without risk. A woman, a member of the Trump supporting mob, died after being shot by a member of law enforcement.

"Peaceful protest is the right of every American but this attack on our Capitol will not be tolerated and those involved will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law," Vice President Mike Pence said.

The chaos is readily apparent. Metropolitan Police Department Chief Robert Contee, later, confirmed that three others died due to "medical emergencies."

"I have issued Mayor’s Order 2021-003, extending the public emergency declared earlier today for a total of 15 days, until and unless provided for by further Mayoral Order," tweeted Mayor Muriel Bowser.

"I call on this mob to pull back and allow the work of democracy to go forward," Biden said.

The breach, leading to significant clashes with law enforcement, saw senatorial proceedings halted. The United State Congress ultimately voted to certify Electoral College votes for President-elect Joe Biden.

“I hope Mike is going to do the right thing; I hope so,” Trump said. “If Mike Pence does the right thing then we win the election.”

It is clear Trump had hoped outgoing the outgoing vice president would influence the certification outcome.

Previously, whenever someone had displeased Trump, the now lame duck president often took to Twitter and bombarded his target with vile incoherent comments. It likely came as a shock to Trump that Pence had placed his commitment to the United States Constitution above him.

“To those who wreaked havoc in our Capitol today, you did not win,” Pence said. “Violence never wins. Freedom wins. And this is still the people’s house.”

Trump's supporters were largely influenced by comments made by the lame duck president. The outgoing president has been a nightmare for a lot of people.

The lame duck's obfuscations, coupled with the way he uses his Twitter account, has greatly harmed the country's integrity. Time and again, even during his four-year presidency, Trump has demonstrated an unprecedented instability.

Trump's accusations of their being electoral fraud, without substantive evidence, is based entirely on hearsay, conjecture, and unsubstantiated opinion. Trump frequently tweets nonsense.

No one could have imagined, going into the 2016 US Presidential Election, we would see the most corrupt elected public servants hold power.

Republicans, based on the established process, selected Trump as their leader. It was a flabbergasting decision which left many people scratching their heads.

Election Night 2016, every bit as perplexing as Trump being the presidential nominee, saw the Republican win the Electoral College.

For the second time, in 2000 and 2016, divided elections saw distinctively different results for the Electoral College and the popular vote.

2016 US Presidential Election

The popular vote winner for both elections did not ascend to the presidency. Democrats, on both occasions, felt the will of the people had been ignored. The same can't be said for the most recent election.

2020 US Presidential Election

“All of us here today do not want to see our election stolen by emboldened radical Democrats,” Trump said. “We will never give up and we will never concede.”

Trump's supporters, respective of the 2020 US Presidential Election, refuse to recognise their man lost both the Electoral College and the popular vote.
