That Sinking Feeling

Man The Lifeboats, America

As the winter Olympics take center stage without too much fanfare, the Trump Administration is poised to unleash a budget filled with draconian cuts in just about every safety net there is. These safety nets have had significant success in keeping millions of Americans from falling through the cracks of an already unbalanced society. Yet we have Trump and the rest of the Republicans incapable of hearing the cries of the impoverished multitudes that continue to languish in desperation, hoping for better times ahead.

When the latest report indicated that the United States dropped to 18th in world economic freedom, that indicates that the present Administration has not a clue on how to improve the economic and sociological stature of the United States and, for that matter, in the eyes of the rest of the industrial nations. So fixated on military spending without the slightest regard for bringing balance back into our society, Trump and company are doing unparalleled damage to an already damaged economy. So far, the only people that have benefited from the Trump and Republicans agenda have been the top one percent.

As news broke of newly developed energy technology where wireless energy transmitted by the internet should be front page news, what is in the news instead is the audacity of Trump. Just think of the implications that having your computer transmitting enough energy for your home has, yet you can bet your bottom dollar that this newly conceived energy source that, by the way, Nickoli Tesla envisioned at the turn of the 20th century for free unlimited electric power, only to be capitalized later on by the major electrical companies to profit from, will again increase electrical rates all across the country.

As our infrastructure continues to crumble, job losses mounting, wages stagnating, and more gun violence occurring, it is quite evident that the Trump Administration has no intention of creating an agenda that would greatly reduce the inequality in our society. We have the technology and the capability to advance our society into a more prosperous and secure future, yet we are continually denied the opportunity to achieve the results needed by Trump, and a political process that has for years stymied the hopes and dreams of millions of Americans.

With mid-term elections coming, many Democrats are poised to capitalize on a Republican and Trump catastrophe. Yet they, too, will be denied, as well as the American public to see any meaningful results as a result. The gridlock will continue until we, the American public, realize that our whole political process has been corrupted. And until elections are not bought by not only special interests, but by the citizens themselves, the corruption in our democratic political process will continue.

We have to realize that when wealth as it has been the prime ingredient for political power corruption is not that far behind. For too long political power has been solely held by the wealthy. Where there is wealth, there is power, and where there is power, there is control. This is the fundamental framework now of our political process. As a result, millions of Americas continue to be at the mercy of a political process that continues to only favor the wealthy.

If we allow our democratic process to continue as it has been, our country will be unrecognizable, and for many of us, it already is. There are ways to eliminate the travesty of a political process that has run contrary to every democratic principle, but it will take a united effort by everyone to make it happen. That old saying: if you want to change the rules of the political process, then you first have to play the game that is now being played, then win election in order to effect the changes needed in order to play the game again. That is what is needed in 2018 and 2020, and until we realize this, our future continues to give us that sinking feeling.
