Politics does not dictate our collective cultural mindset as much as it simply reflects it; We've got to look in the mirror sometimes, and we've got one.
The 2nd week of the Russian invasion of Ukraine..non-stop coverage
Weser: War refugees in Ukraine are free to choose their country of asylum German Interior Minister Nancy Wieser said that it will be possible for war refugees from Ukraine to decide for themselves at the present time which European country they wish to seek asylum in. "I think that people of Ukraine will now want to go within the European Union to countries where they have a lot of friends, relatives and acquaintances in particular," Weser told German radio today. She pointed out that there is no need to set distribution quotas for the reception of (Ukrainian) refugees, if the process of receiving them proceeds normally. And the German minister continued: "But from a legal point of view, the European Commission will have the possibility to determine distribution quotas, but it has not yet used this possibility."
Ukraine as I see it
Right now the Ukraine is embattled. It is in a fight for it's life like never seen before since World War Two. There is a refugee crisis that is worse since Hitler invaded Poland in the late 1930's.

Sydney PaigePublished 2 years ago in The SwampThe Main Difference Between Liberals and Progressives
The main difference between liberals and progressives is the economic system. Liberals uphold the economic system that Reagan and Thatcher implemented in the mid 70s through 80s. Prior to that, all first wold countries had mixed economies. Western Europe still has mixed economies. Both Germany and Portugal (the two countries I have lived in during the past year) call themselves welfare states. I also lived in South Africa for the first three months of 2021, and although it doesn't call itself a welfare state, it fits the parameters.

US and UK: Hypocrites in Calling Out Russia On Invasion.
The US and the UK, are correct to hold Russia accountable, for the invasion of Ukraine. Western nations are also correct in imposing the harshest of sanctions on the regime in Moscow. Russia's invasion of Ukraine has seen wanton destruction of civilian areas as well as military targets.

Just as the world was hoping that things would slowly return back to normal, another major event marked the beginning of 2022, as tensions between Russia and Ukraine, backed by the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, began reaching stressful peaks. Sure enough, it wasn’t long until the “formerly” socialist superpower launched its campaign into the sovereign country of Ukraine, in Eastern Europe.

The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) once again seems to be failing to fulfill its role during the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict. There have been many such international incidents in the past years that have raised questions about the relevance of this global institution.

Anuj GuptaPublished 2 years ago in The SwampDemocratic Dynasties? 4 Political Families Chosen by The People
When we think of a dynasty, we could be picturing a Monarchy like the British Royal Family or a dictatorial regime like the Kim Dynasty in North Korea. Basically, we imagine one powerful role being confined to a single family. Passing down a role or title from one family member to the next, with nobody to challenge it or with no say from the people is the very antithesis of democracy. So much so, that countries like Indonesia, the world’s third largest democracy, have implemented laws to prevent relatives from immediately succeeding each other in public office. After all, would it not be more democratic if a single family was not allowed to monopolise its country’s political power?
