“Woke Capitalism” Doesn’t Work for America’s Poor
Once, the Left represented the fight for social justice, striving to dismantle classism and inequity. It was a symbol of unity for the oppressed, the proletariat, and the marginalized, pushing back against the bourgeoisie’s grip on society. However, it appears that the tables have turned; “woke” ideology, once an expression of awareness of social injustice, has transformed into a bourgeois identitarian movement, betraying its foundation.

The idea of medically assisted death is not new in North America. Dr. Jack Kevorkian, the infamous “Dr. Death,” thrust the concept of physician-assisted suicide into the public consciousness in the 1990s (Filc et al., 2019). Kevorkian’s homemade “Mercitron” machine, used to end the lives of willing patients, made him both a pariah and a pioneer. His actions ignited fierce debates about the ethics of euthanasia and the right to a dignified death.

After that, it endured as a territory of the United States federal government despite multiple attempts to change the status quo in any number of ways. Yet, perhaps it is different this time and Puerto Rico really will finally become a State, or sail off as its own sovereign nation.
Thoughts on the U.S. — China Situation, the Prisoner’s Dilemma, and WWI
The current state of relations between the United States and China has been, by now, a topic of concern for a while. As tensions continue to rise between these two global superpowers, it’s worth considering the historical parallels that exist between this moment and the pre-World War I period. Specifically, the situation can be seen as a classic example of the Prisoner’s Dilemma game — a scenario in which two parties must choose whether to cooperate or compete, with sub-optimal consequences if both choose the latter. If steps are not taken to reverse the escalation of hostilities, the potential for lasting damage to both countries and the world as a whole looms large. In this article, I’ll express my unsolicited opinion on the current situation, the reasons for the comparison to pre-WWI tensions, and the hope that the risks of further escalation will be mitigated.
