Sir Keir Starmer: Government Should Reveal Those Fined.

Partygate Has Not Gone Away.

Labour Leader: Sir Keir Starmer.

International Trade Secretary Anne-Marie Trevelyan said fines have been issued for those that had broken lockdown regulations. Fines were given to those who had attended garden parties at 10 Downing Street. Fines were also issued to party attendees in Whitehall. Ms. Trevelyan made her comments on Sky News. Dominic Raab Deputy Prime Minister and Justice Secretary said the same thing as Ms Trevelyan.

Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer said the public has the right to know who had been issued with fines. Sir Keir took aim at Carrie Johnson the Prime Minister's wife. Should Mrs Johnson be issued with a fine it should not be concealed.

Labour Shadow Chancellor Rachel Reeves said, "It is blindingly obvious to everyone that the law has been broken". Asked why it matters Ms Reeves responded "It matters because it's a question of integrity and of telling the truth".

The Prime Minister has been accused of breaking the ministerial code. Mr Johnson told parliament no rules were broken when they plainly were. By attending parties Mr Johnson broke lockdown rules. Sir Keir Starmer has been calling for Mr Johnson's resignation over this. Even at Prime Minister's Questions, Sir Keir Starmer echoed that call. The ministerial code does say that if a sitting Prime Minister has misled parliament they must resign. With Mr Johnson not resigning Sir Keir asked the Prime Minister "Why are you still here"?

The Metropolitan Police announced that 20 fines for breaking lockdown rules have been issued. There has been an ongoing investigation by the Metropolitan police into alleged breaches of lockdown rules. All of those who breached those rules were given forms to fill in. The form asks for details of involvement in the gatherings. Once the form is completed it must be returned to the Metropolitan police. It is then up to the police whether you are fined or not. It has been announced that the Prime Minister is not one of those people issued with the first 20 fines.

The £25 fine came about because the government needed to control illegal gatherings. Many members of the public fell foul of the lockdown rules and were fined. Those holding public office and breaking the rules should be fined. However, this government acts as if there is one law for them and one for the rest of us. This encourages a feeling of injustice in ordinary people

The news of the Ukraine-Russia conflict has not submerged lockdown misdemeanours. It has not gone away and those guilty of breaking lockdown rules will be fined. A £25 fine will be nothing to those in government. That said at least the public will see justice served.

On May 5 there will be elections to elect councillors to town halls. The government will be fearing a massive defeat in these elections. If the Conservatives lose seats in town halls they only have themselves to blame. Labour, the Lib Dems, the Greens, etc, will be hoping to gain seats at the expense of the government.

The Conservatives were elected to power in 2010. We have had three hapless and useless Prime Ministers in that course of time. David Cameron, Theresa May and now Boris Johnson have all proved to be inadequate. Also, policies from this administration are hurting the poorest most.

Meanwhile, we have to wait until 2024 until the next general election. The polls show that this government is unpopular with the electorate. That said the government cannot be written off yet. Boris Johnson is not called the Teflon Prime Minister for nothing. The job of Sir Keir Starmer is to keep plugging away and ultimately defeat this government in 2024.
