One veterans opinion on burning the flag

The first amendment of the constitution gives the right to free speech and freedom from government sanctioned religion. The US Supreme Court made a ruling that said it protected burning the flag of this great nation. This should piss off every red blooded American. It doesn't because our children have been indoctrinated to hate this country, from it's history to it's fight on terror. The current Vice President believes every monument and statue needs to come down and we need to tear down our nation to start over.

As a veteran, I agree the Vice President has the right to her opinion, just as I have a right to my own. I served when gay men and women weren't allowed to serve, by lying to my recruiter. Getting caught in the arms of another man would have been disastrous for me. I have stopped watching professional sports as a result of the football players taking a knee in protest of oppressive behavior. Now school districts all across this nation want to teach critical race theory which breaks our children up according to race to tell the whites that they are the oppressors and the blacks that they are oppressed.

In his song above Merle Haggard wrote this after it was decided that it was acceptable to burn the flag. He stated he was pissed off over the decision to allow the flag to be burned. He felt there were better ways than to tear down the symbol of democracy and freedom around the world. He felt if you disrespected the flag then you shouldn't be here.

In his song he asks if the veterans should burn their purple hearts or their uniform from their time in service. Have we really come that far for us to destroy the only country that represents freedom to the world. We have people who come from all over the world to escape tyranny and oppression, such as Cuba. We have millions pouring over the southern border to enter illegally. How are we going to stop this? States are giving illegal immigrants housing and education while neglecting our own veterans living on the streets.

Merle was an ardent patriot and took on these issues. Children born in the 1980's and beyond didn't have to worry about the threat of a Soviet Invasion or take over of the world. I did and I enlisted to stop the threat and spread of communism. I was stationed in Germany and as an American citizen, I saw how hated a despised we really were in the world. It was a real eye opener. How do you explain to your grandchildren you fought a different kind of war. How do you explain that you were almost killed by a terrorist bombing while drinking a beer at Octoberfest in Munich?

The elderly who are dying off in larger numbers now are the reason we aren't speaking German and Japanese. The warning from the emperor of Japan when they broached him about invading America said "you will have a gun behind every blade of grass." He fully understood the second amendment and consequences. The elderly fought on foreign soil so it wouldn't be fought on American soil. We owe them everything including a huge debt of gratitude for going to fight. They didn't want to go, but was told to go because we had been attacked. After September 11, we sent our National guard troops to combat. We have been fighting that war for twenty years now.

I am sixty and will not hesitate to suit up to fight to protect this land. Many veterans my age feel the same way. Are we going to be able to count on the younger generation to fight and keep our nation free? Will our government stand up and fight for our nation or cave? These are questions we need to ask before we reelect any politician.

Our men came back from Vietnam and were spit on, called baby killers and hated. The media only showed you one side of the story. What they didn't show you was a mother trying to put her child on a helicopter with an explosive attached to them. Jane Fonda went to Vietnam, visited the North Vietnamese and sided with them. In my opinion she was a traitor then as she is now. That is why she is called Hanoi Jane. My uncle came back scarred from that war. His plane was shot down and he suffered burns over eighty-percent of his body.

If someone doesn't stand up to defend the flag, then they won't defend the nation. Two-hundred forty-seven years ago we would have been hanging some of these politicians for treason.
