Prime Minister Boris Johnson appeared on GB News and he was asked about future lockdowns. Mr. Johnson said he could not rule out a future lockdown. At the moment the current COVID situation in the UK appears to be leveling off. We have had the Omicron variant which seems to be less deadly than its predecessors. The virus is supposed to be less transmissible as warmer weather approaches in the UK.

The government is currently launching a fourth jab for the over 75s. Whether there will be further inoculations for lower age groups remains to be seen.

Emily Thornberry Shadow Attorney General agreed with Mr. Johnson on not ruling out further lockdowns. Mrs. Thornberry admitted there isn't much she agrees with the Prime Minister about. However, on this one, she conceded the Prime Minister was correct in his assumption of future lockdowns.

Look at China now with massive cities in lockdown. Wuhan was the origin of the first COVID outbreak that subsequently spread to the rest of the world. There will always be debate as to the origins of the virus. Was it a bio-weapon that escaped from a lab or human encroachment on the natural world? With many of China's cities in lockdown, the economic giant will take a huge hit. Citizens are restricted to their homes and a lockdown in China really is a lockdown. It seems China despite its draconian restrictions COVID rates remain high. China will forever be opened up and locked down again as long as COVID is around.

Of course, China may be the origin of the virus but countries worldwide have paid a heavy price. Economically, mental health-wise, those who have died of the virus, etc, are the price the world has paid. The UK government right now seems to be getting us used to living with the virus. In the UK we have lived with influenza for years with flu killing many each year. As winter approaches those between 50 and 80 are advised to get their flu jab. So it will be with COVID with those of a certain age and vulnerability to get their COVID jab. Of course, there are those who simply refuse to take the jab for the side effects. And also, for religious reasons too. So are all these people mistaken? One could argue so but at the end of the day, it is ultimately their choice.

Certainly, the UK was slow to challenge the virus and act accordingly. Many paid the ultimate price such as the old, those with underlying illnesses, ethnic minorities, those on the NHS, etc. The government came in for harsh criticism and rightly so. On the positive side, furloughs saved many jobs, and loans/grants saved many businesses. Eventually, the vaccine arrived and many took up and got their jab. The vaccine is not perfect, however, it has prevented many from burdening the NHS. Also, while people still get the virus the vaccine has saved many lives.

At one time during the height of the lockdown Boris regularly broadcast from Downing Street. Usually flanked by two medical experts like Patrick Vallance and Chris Whitty. Anti-COVID propaganda was spoonfed to the nation via these broadcasts. Of course, 'Partygate' has made the Prime Minister and his administration look rather ridiculous and hypocritical. Telling people to isolate and not mix while Boris and his cronies were attending parties. No doubt, many ordinary folks also did things like this. Those people caught would have been fined and rightly so. So it is for those in government who have been fined for attending Downing street shindigs. No one regardless of their status in life should be above the law.

Finally then, to speculate about future deadlier COVID variants, lockdowns, etc, is exactly that speculation. As Mr. Johnson and Ms. Thornberry alluded to we know COVID is still around. That is why we must live our lives but be prepared for whatever COVID does next. And ultimately, the governments' response to whatever this virus may manifest.
