Eliminating the Two-Party System

My Proposal

The two party system is deeply flawed. It pits people against each other. If we truly want to judge a candidate by their character and not their affiliation, then we are doing the work that Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. wanted us to do. On the heels of campaign finance reform, we need to redefine our politics and ourselves, since Republicans are all about being pro-life and Democrats are about equal pay for equal work. Some of us moderates are left out within the two party systems since the system forces us to lean to the right or to the left, but never in the middle.

I would like to help dismantle the two party systems by becoming Independent. To be American means to have the courage to go after people who take our freedom away. Anybody who reeks of dishonesty needs to be deposed. We have had our share of dishonesty since 2016. The two party system is a dinosaur that needs to be replaced. It no longer serves us. So then, you ask, how do we vote without a party system? Character perhaps? Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. did ask us to judge by the content of character, not the color of skin or any external characteristics that people used to be judged by from the 1940s onward until 1968.

The two-party system is not doing so well in 2018 because when one party can shut down the government, that reeks of selfishness. The government shut down for only five hours until Congress passed a budget deal last Friday. There was a military bill signed that faced opposition from both the left and the right. They didn’t want to draw out the fight any more than necessary. It would seem that both parties dig their heels in. This is why we need to eliminate the two party system by looking for alternatives.

Both Democrats and Republicans hate each other for what they are told to believe in. Both parties refuse to work together. This is why the two party system is something that needs to be amended. All the hostility from both sides is what is slowing down major progress. Each party winds up with gridlock. The media is partly responsible for polarizing both sides against each other. The American public is just as fed up with this as Congress can be. There are major disapproval levels out there about the job Congress is doing. People want to deal with those who are not stuck with the two party mentality.

People want more choices. Parties do not leave room for choices, or for judging somebody by their deeds, character, and honor. What party do you pick from then if all you have to go on is the character of the politician? More people of color need to run for office, more women, more transgender people, more gay people, we need real representation. Congress has few minorities. I contemplate running for California State Senate one day myself as an Independent. Some contemplate that we need new political parties in the landscape so we have less radical choices available to us of who represents us. We lack minorities in Congress that much is abundantly clear. We need more minorities in office. We need more young people running for office. This is why I want to hold state office before I run for U.S. Senate. I read that you do not have to have political experience but it helps that I was in student politics way back in junior college. I think we need fresh blood, even 25-year old kids, to be Representatives, and 30 to be a Senator. I’m 36. All is not lost since that is old enough.
