governments and others

The world is going to melt or freeze or drown soon. Sorry if that's a surprise but I somehow doubt it. Some of you are making an effort but most of its a token one at best. Rather then trading carbon emissions and setting your forests on fire while blaming others do it yourself. Rather then big headlining ideas look for small and build up to the bigger picture. You need to change a few laws, bring in some new and above all make sure they are obeyed. You might upset a few of your friends but they can manage.

It might be hard at first, in Britain you may actually get some help from the protesters about climate change. They cause traffic jams to protest at air pollution and dig up grass to protest at damage to nature. So if you can sort a few things to get these mad few satisfied you will please many more. It might mean you accept climate change is happening, harder for some then others.

One trick I keep seeing near where I live is to not clear up air pollution but to move it around a bit. A crossroads had terrible pollution from traffic waiting to cross or turn. So what was the solution, stop them turning, send them 200 yards down the road to a roundabout and then back up to turn. So same traffic, just spread out fumes a bit. There's also a diesel ban planned in my nearest big town. Small problem to start is most buses, delivery lorries and buses are diesels ,this blanket ban has exemptions to start. Then what happens with all the diesel vehicles that will go round the city rather then through to their destination, more moved pollution.

What would make sense nationally is to enforce limits on engine size and pollution from new cars, tighten mot testing limits and improve public transport so people drove less. All train travel should have price caps and the government should take back control in order to fund this properly. the problem here is that rich countries who make oil want you to drive so they stay rich. The government would also make less from taxing cars, fuel and anything else that moves. Therefore some changes would be needed and some accounting changed.

Many will agree with the impending ban on all non electric cars. This is moving the problem around rather then curing it. Apart from the cost, that pedestrians cant hear them coming and their appalling lack of range there's plenty more problems. They need constant long charging cycles, therefore either more power stations or more load on existing ones. There fore more coal or nuclear power and its inherent waste. The batteries contain dangerous chemicals, often harvested by child labour. Product that take many years to breakdown after the car is no longer needed. The carbon footprint before the cars even start are far higher then existing cars as the are made in various places and components are transported before being built.

So in certain places pollution increases but in other place it rises along with the exploitation and child labour. We need a solution on a global scale, it would mean governments working together and helping each other. Unlikely I know but needs to happen somehow. A countries economy or its status or its ego doesn't matter as much as having somewhere safe to live. Priorities need to be the bigger picture.

Maybe the problem is older politicians don't care bout a future they wont live to see, maybe they have a planet they plan to inhabit when this one dies. So rather then discredit a Swedish youth for telling the truth do something constructive. While many don't like the protest methods I am sure they understand the reasoning behind it all. While we have a planet left please try and save it.
