Compromise

When did we drift so far apart?

So we live in a politically saturated country that has become very toxic. It's either you agree with me or we are enemies. We have slowly become less and less willing to see anything from anyone else's perspective. The society we have created has become a toxic disease that is slowly devouring each and every one of us. It has divided families and friends? Created rifts in what once was a solid relationship. What will it take to survive this mess and come out on top? Is there even anything any of us can do? Where are we even going to start if there is something we can do.

There is one thing that is at the center of all this division we are seeing in our country and that is Pride. We have learned to never compromise and to argue anything and everything that goes against the way we see life. If it doesn't align exactly with how we picture life it is wrong and dangerous. The problem with this view is we are all so different and see life through different lenses. How are we supposed to get along with others if we have even slightly different views? This is where humility needs to come in. We as a country need to learn how to humble ourselves and admit that maybe we aren't always right. Maybe there is a chance the glass we are looking at life through may be a bit dirty or even cracked. I would love to see our political system learn this lesson and begin to make compromises that will help our citizens as a whole and not just those on one particular party.

We have never been more divided as a people before. This last election was so close. People argue that Joe Biden won by a lot and had the most votes a president has ever had. Even though that is true, Trump had the second most votes. More people came out and voted this last election than ever before. This country has been divided and the division just seems to be getting wider and wider. If we don't do something soon will our country collapse in on itself? Will we begin fighting amongst ourselves and start yet another civil war? I'm not saying any side is in the right or the wrong. There are both good and bad people on both sides of our political aisle and if we are going to get anything done we need to build a bridge and tear down the wall. In this analogy, the wall is our pride and the bridge would be compromise.

There are so many issues from immigration to taxes to social issues that we could work through together if we set aside our party lines for a day and just decided to work together. You see two politicians arguing about the same thing but refusing to work together just because one is wearing blue and the other red. This insanity could be stopped if both sides could just talk and find common ground then go from there.

I remember when Trump won the 2016 election and people were saying that the country would be in ruins and not survive the next four years. But hey we made it through and came out the other side. It may not have been a smooth ride but when is life ever smooth sailing? Now the people on the other side are saying the same things about Biden. It's like we can never find peace. That's because of the brokenness of humanity. I want to encourage people to instead of talking bad about any of our elected officials how about we pray for and encourage them. Instead of complaining to your friends pick up a pen and paper and write a letter about your concerns and send it to that person. We have a say even if it is a small one. Complaining won't change anything but make you miserable.

If we want change to happen let's let that change start with us and not the other person. Humble yourself and ask is it possible that I could be wrong instead of immediately pointing a finger at someone else.
