Abortion and Women’s Rights

Freedom to choose or freedom of choice

The fight for one of us is the fight for all of us.

To begin, I recognize that this is a very sensitive topic with heavy opinions on both sides. I am writing this today as a neutral observer, and I mean not to offend anyone.

Women, they are our mothers, sisters, daughters, wives, cousins, and friends. They have fought bravely for their rights, which are the inherent rights of all living beings. The fight for one of us, is the fight for all of us, as it furthers the definition of who we are as a society. The right to be considered a person, the right to vote, to own property, to wear what you want, date whom you want, earn what you deserve, and now whether you are ready to be a parent.

These are very personal choices that can only be made by the person they affect. Some fight the idea of abortion, because they fight for the life that has not had a chance to live. They fight to defend the infinite possibilities that life may bring.

I can honestly say that I see both sides of the argument, and feel both are correct. I know many are screaming at their phones that I am naive or arrogant, but please hear me out.

Motherhood, I am told, is one of the happiest experiences, and is the most rewarding title for anyone. To be able to bring life into this world is a gift from the divine. Those lives represent possibilities for the future.

They could grow up to be doctors or scientists, builders or architects, lawyers or judges, astronomers or astronauts, musicians or artists. Creating masterpieces, curing diseases, and solving age old problems, furthering all of humanity. Each life is sacred, which is why people are so strongly opposed to abortion.

That being said, some people are not ready to be parents. That is a personal introspective journey that lasts a lifetime to find out who you are. It’s a lifelong commitment that doesn’t end after the eighteenth year, but continues until death. Some would argue then that adoption is the answer, yet we have far too many in the system already.

To adopt you need to go through an extensive interview process where they determine your parental viability. If a women knows herself and her life who are we to say otherwise. If you choose to be a parent when adopting why not naturally?

Women fight everyday for equality, and to be recognized as any man would be in nearly every industry. They deserve the right to choose what happens to their bodies, period. There is, however, I feel a way to ease both sides of the debate.

I therefore propose a compromise, we should create a new path. I think that instead of abortion they remove the embryo and freeze it in a “seed vault” in case we ever need to repopulate the earth. This way no lives are lost, and all freedoms are upheld.

At the very least it will give us time, time to think, to grow, to evolve together while being prudent about the future. If the parents decide later they want the child, then it can be replaced inside to womb, and grow to term. This would not only solve the argument, but would create new industries as well. Even give people more time to decide together a better way forward.

This is by no means a perfect solution, but it does help both sides to meet in the middle. The women retain direct control over their bodies as they should, and that potential life is saved for the future.

Whatever we decide it needs to be done together, taking into account all sides and all freedoms. We all have different sides and different ideas, but we are all people under the divine; you are my people, I am your people, we are one people. We should find better ways to support each other instead of screaming, signs, and picket lines.
