A Future Without Hope

There are those who believe judgement day is close at hand. An Apocalyptic event so catastrophic that will thrust mankind either back into the Dark Ages or into the caves of the Neanderthal. With the winds of war hollowing across the Middle East where the plight of millions fleeing the stench of war has disrupted the flow of humanity sends a clear message that those who believe just may be right after all. The epic misery, hopelessness and woe are now the bedfellows of much of humanity. The life and death struggle so many face day to day is the brutal reality of the 21st century.

Could it have been the failings of humanity that just maybe rooted in a toxic combination of religious and ethnic hatred that ignited the flames of terror? Could it also be the inability to sustain a civil society and the failure to accept the primacy of science that is leading to the creeping destruction of cultures that some date back to antiquity? Will our indecisiveness and failings lead to the eventual destruction of the human race? Sobering questions to be sure. One has to wonder considering what mankind has and is continually doing to the environment. And, yet the world is hurdling faster with each weapon that is fired and fossil fuel that is burned toward that day of judgement.

With the Middle East in the throws of violent rebellion where the machinery of war wage savage reprisals across the land could be the catalyst that engulfs the world in flames of destruction, mayhem and horror. As our attention continues to ignore the plight of so many, here in the United States where the media and too many of our political Presidential contenders of this next election cycle have been blinded by their own self interest where money flows to power can't seem to grasp how precariously close America is to falling into an abyss that would move judgement day that much closer.

It is a sad irony that the Middle East is in chaos while our legislators are behaving like Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum when it comes to issuing policies that would effectively ease the savage carnage by demented individuals and the economic conditions that millions of Americans are faced with every day right here in the good old USA. They have the availability to put in place an agenda that would restore faith in our government that they are doing something to eliminate the needless slaughter of our innocent citizens, preserve our national security by upgrading our own infrastructure, capitalize on new technologies to negate the impact of what climate change continues to do, and so many more realistic goals that would certainly terminate humanities day of judgement.

That old saying "as Nero fiddles, Rome is burning" just may be the most apropos statement in relation to how Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum of our congress and political office seekers of late really are. They continue to do nothing or something so trivial that really has no effect on the existing conditions that have intensified the suffering of millions not only here in the United States but all over the globe. Now, as the world is moving closer to that fateful day the drums of war have already been played, we the hapless multitudes have to more than just hope and pray that soon the light of reason, compassion and benevolence will break through the storms clouds of destruction that continue to have their way.

Until that time there is so much man can do. Since the beginning of the 21st century humanity has set in motion the juggernaut of calamity that is pushing the world closer to that tragic day. We would be wise to realize that the policies of the past 30 years have only helped create this global tempest we are witness to today. A more violent world has arisen as a result of many of the United States interventions that have only made the wealthy wealthier, increased the severity of economic instability for millions here and around the globe and really did nothing to ensue that the sanctity of life would prevail.

When it comes to climate change so many elected officials in their denial and apathy to accept the dangers of what man has already done to the worlds environment has contributed to the many intense violent reprisals by nature. It is nature's wrath that continues to disrupt the flow of humanity. Could this also be a major contributor that pushes man closer to judgement day? Something to think about. The self inflicted assault by man on our environment has brought the wrath of nature into play. The wrath of nature has only continued to be more destructive than war itself. Unless the global community stops the displacement of millions the world over where homelessness, hunger, and misery continues to mount that day of judgement will soon come about.

The greatest challenge facing us today can be accomplished but only if the greed, and selfishness of many powers that be is replaced by the light of reason and sympathy. To have a genuine concern for the sanctity of life has to take president in the decisions that are made to make peace and harmony a reality.
