Be on the lookout for the cryptocurrencies that are breaking boundaries, reaching Bitcoin status, and have increased their market value drastically since the start of 2018. Ethereum, Litecoin, Dash, and Ripple, are just some of the many to keep an eye on to further your investments.

Of course, we have to mention that you have full control and responsibility over your money and how you invest or spend it. That said, given the statistics, these are the top performing crypto coins to invest in this year if you're so inclined.

Ethereum

Ethereum's cryptocurrency, Ether, which is generated by the Ethereum platform, is one of the best alternatives to Bitcoin in 2018. Using the Ether token, the current market cap is at approximately $76 billion. As a form of payment made by the platform's clients to deploy decentralized applications and access smart contracts, Ether can be transferred between accounts or used as compensation for mining nodes. Using a decentralized Turing-complete virtual machine, otherwise known as the Ethereum Virtual Machine, Ether can execute scripts by accessing the international network of public nodes.

As one of the top performing crypto coins, many gains have been made for the cryptocurrency, including legitimacy and awareness. And most impressive, Ethereum recently formed the Enterprise Ethereum Alliance, which is comprised of names such as JP Morgan Chase, Microsoft, and Credit Suisse.

Bitcoin

Bitcoin is one of the top performing crypto coins; that is needless to say. Bitcoin was the first decentralized digital currency on the market, and continues to surpass investors' expectations since its release as an open-source software in 2009.

Used as both a cryptocurrency and worldwide payment system, Bitcoin exercises peer-to-peer lending as well as transactions. Taking place between users directly, each transaction is verified by network notes using blockchain. The current market cap is approximately $283 billion, including trustworthy predictions for an over-$70,000 rise in value.

Ethereum Classic

The Ethereum platform fork created two versions of the cryptocurrency: Ethereum Classic and Ethereum. The value token for Ethereum Classic is called Classic Ether or ETC. You can transfer this cryptocurrency between participants, use it for compensation for participant nodes for computations performed, or store it in a cryptocurrency wallet.

Using the international transaction pricing mechanism, Gas, Ethereum Classic prevents spam and allocates resources proportionally. The market cap is currently $1,716,786,183, having maintained its high value for months now. Ethereum has the potential to surpass Bitcoin in market cap; this would be an incredible feat.

Litecoin

Released under the MIT/X11 license, Litecoin is an open source software project and peer-to-peer cryptocurrency. As one of the top performing crypto coins, the transfer and creation of Litecoin is derived from an open source cryptographic protocol.

As a fork of Bitcoin, this cryptocurrency was created by Charlie Lee. Rising higher than expected, the currency is currently one of the largest in the world, and has been since the month of December. The current market cap is approximately $15.7 billion. Inspired by Bitcoin, the coin is often compared to Bitcoin, being technically detailed as nearly identical to the first decentralized digital currency on the market.

Bitcoin Cash

Since the Bitcoin hard fork in August of 2017, Bitcoin Cash was created to provide a platform for those looking for to increase Bitcoin transaction capacity on a separate blockchain due to the increased block size. This split blockchain and the cryptocurrency into two.

With a market cap of $51 billion, the value is predicted to rise by $20,000. the fork was appreciated by many as it allows the crypto coin to maintain wipeout protection, and it's attested to the great success of Bitcoin Cash.

Dash

Another one of the top performing crypto coins with great potential, Dash is an open source P2P cryptocurrency. Also known as Darkcoin or XCoin, Dash offers instant transactions and private transactions.

The Dash network, which features a self-governing and self-funding model, is enabled to pay users and businesses to add value to the network by performing work specifically for Dash. Their market cap is currently ranging around three billion dollars, impressively rising consistently since the beginning of the year.

Monero

As an open source cryptocurrency, Monero has focused on privacy, scalability, and decentralization. Monero was first created in April of 2014 and has a current market cap of $6.66 billion.

Running on macOS, Windows, Android, iOS, FreeBSD, and Linux, the cryptocurrency uses a public ledger to record transactions. Monero's record transaction process will also make the mining process more egalitarian. Some websites have used users' CPU to mine Monero.

NEO

NEO, formerly known as Antshares, is referred to as being the Ethereum of China by many cryptowatchers and is one of the top altcoins expected to boom this year. With a growing popularity and reliability, NEO is very similar to Ethereum. In the beginning of 2018, the price of one NEO coin skyrocketed from $75.02 to $124.50 between January 1st and January 15th.

As one of the top performing crypto coins to keep an eye on in 2018, NEO originally launched in 2014 by Da Hongfei, the CEO of Onchain. With a market cap of approximately $4 billion, this is certainly a crypto to look out for in 2018.

Created by the Ripple company, Ripple is a currency exchange and remittance network. Also referred to as RTXP or Ripple protocol, Ripple is last on our list of the top performing crypto coins, but is certainly one worth checking out.

As a real-time gross settlement system, RTXP is the third largest coin by market capitalization as of the first week of March this year. Payments in XRP only take four seconds, which is why Ripple is most known for a fast and secure network. With a market cap of $48.2 billion, Ripple's cryptocurrency is not one to overlook.
