Step up Your Fashion Game

Easy tips that won't leave you clueless!

By Lisa Published 5 years ago 2 min read

I will give you some tips on how to immediately look more put-together and more stylish. But there is something I want you to do!

Before (or after) reading this article, stand in front of a mirror with a pen and a piece of paper and ask yourself these three questions:

1. Which parts of my body do I really like?

Whether its your collarbones, your ankles, your eyes or your butt. Just write all that down.

2. Which parts of my body do I not like that much?

Write all these down too.

3. Which colors make me shine?

Go through your closet, try one all kinds of different colors (also accessories!) and find out which colors make you shine and which leave you faded. Write these down as well.

Congratulations! What you just did is find out the most important things you need to know when you want to step up your fashion game. You are halfway there. Now that you now what you want to accentuate and what you might want to cover, let's start with some tips.

1. Do not follow trends that don't suit you.

If you don't feel comfortable in showing your stomach, crop-tops won't be a nice option for you. There is no need to follow any trend that you don't feel confident in. If crop-tops aren't for you, skip them. If neon makes you look sick, skip it.

Now go ahead and get rid of all the things you bought because they are trendy but that you don't feel confident in.

2. Only wear accessories that make you shine.

Now that you know whether gold or silver makes your eyes sparkle and your skin shine, only go for this color and get rid of all the other items. Give them to charity or a friend, but there is no sense in keeping something that doesn't make you look amazing.

3. Make sure your clothes fit.

I know, everyone in the fashion industry advocates this, but it is crucial: Clothes that are too loose, too long, too tight or too short never look good.

Try to make them fit, if you really like an item, otherwise; donate it. There is no point in keeping clothes (or shoes) that just don't fit, because they never will and just clutter your closet.

4. Play around with what you already have.

This one t-shirt that has a nice print but is too baggy, cut it into a croptop. The "ugly" blouse your grandmother gave you, try layering it underneath or above a nice crop-top/ shirt. The fanny pack you wear cross-shoulder, try wearing it like a bag. The fancy silk scarf you never really wear, tie it into your hair, make a belt out of it. You see my point; use what you already have and be crazy.

5. Care for shoes and clothes.

Follow the washing instructions and try to wash your clothes only when really dirty. Keep the soles of your sneakers clean. Keep your shoes clean and if necessary, stuff them overnight with newspapers. Fold your clothes after washing them. Caring for your items makes a huge difference, will make them last longer, and will make you appear more put-together.
