The style of wearing foot coverings over pant legs should never have caught on.

Shoes over pants

If there is one fashion trend from 2020 that should be headed off at the pass, it's wearing shoes over top of pant legs. Simply look at the cover photo and you should see that the 4 images speak for themselves. This style is ugly and really does not make any sense. This is a dangerous way to wear your pants and shoes because if the straps come aloose these women could trip over their feet and fall. This style could cause some serious damage and that alone should have been the first concern of whoever created it. The first image looks like the genie pants from the late 1908s and the second reminds me of scrubs worn in a hospital. The third photo of the woman in black is not so bad but the last image just seems as if the pants are ill-fitting.

I had thought that with more people's minds on the coronavirus there would not be time for such fashion faux pas but I see I was wrong. It's as if the designers of today, have lost their sense of creativity and originality and are just throwing anything together. The disappointing part in all of this is that these images prove that women will wear anything if it is supposed to be what is trending. I really don't think there needs to be much explanation as to why this was a bad idea. One look should say it all but of course, I know there are women who enjoy this trend.

The long strings on the shoes in the above photo are a disaster waiting to happen. This is my major issue with this style. If the wearer accidentally steps on one of the laces she is going down and it will hurt. That is simply too much shoelace and I cannot figure out why any woman would wear her shoes this way. Lace-ups used to go up to the knee and be tied there. They would be shown off by being worn with short dresses. That style was neat but this one could be downright disastrous and the high heels don't help matters at all.

The shoes in the above photo are a beautiful shade of blue and look as though they were made to go with a pretty dress. They make me think of Easter pastels which is why I loathe them tied around a pair of black pants. Wearing the shoes this way takes away from their allure.

The preceding image is from a runway and I cannot imagine anyone clapping for such a messy style or running out to purchase it. These types of shoes were most often worn with church clothing or when dressing up for special occasions. When worn with pants they were always neatly underneath the pant leg. I mean no disrespect but the first image looks like someone whose clothing is trying to hold her pants together with the shoelaces. The pants also seem as if they are underneath her foot which poses 2 problems.

This will quickly wear out the bottom of the pants, not to mention getting them very dirty. The second is as mentioned with the earlier images, a fall risk. The second and third photos need only one change and that is to untie the laces from the outside and wear them around the leg. This way the shoes are a great accessory to the pants. I certainly hope this style does not resurface in 2021 and remains a relic of the past from 2020.

According to Your Fashion Guru, this "trendy" style became popular with celebrities and on runways near the end of 2019. The purpose was so that women could show off their stylish shoes but that could be done with shorts, capri pants, short dresses, or skirts which also would accentuate the legs. I know I am aging and not in tune with today's styles but something about this trend just rubs me the wrong way and I surely hope that women in 2021 will view wearing shoes over pants as being sooo sooo 2020 and kiss this style goodbye.
