What Is Raw Denim?

When it comes to denim, surely everyone has at least one piece of denim in their wardrobe. But not necessarily in someone's wardrobe stored raw denim. For those of you who are fans of denim, it is obligatory to have this type of denim.

If you don't have one, you can be interpreted as just a denim lover. Raw denim is not the regular jeans that many people have. Even if it is 'raw'. But that does not mean this type of denim has not been made (unfinished). Raw denim is different from other jeans.

The material is taken directly from the weaving machine, sewn into the pants. Raw denim does not undergo the various washing processes. Also never go through any dyeing process. Raw denim, as the name implies, is raw and hasn't undergone any processing.

Although 'raw' but the price exceeds the price of jeans in general. You could say, raw denim is more expensive than regular jeans. Raw denim is an art in the fashion world, this denim is only produced in limited quantities, not mass production.

Do you want to buy jeans made from raw in the near future? Don't let the following things make you regret buying the jeans you want.

1. Not Knowing The Right Jean Size

This is the main thing that makes many people regret buying jeans. With so many cuts of jeans, from skinny to straight, the first step you have to do is determine what fit you will use.

If you like vintage rugged style, you can buy straight or slim-straight silhouette jeans. If you like modern streetwear, you can buy slim or skinny jeans.

Measuring your body shape and comparing it to the jeans size chart is also important so that you don't get the wrong size. It is important to note, brands A and B that have the same silhouette may have different sizes for the same tag size.

In addition, there are two methods of measuring jeans, namely flat (usually used by jeans manufacturers from America and Europe) and round (usually used by jeans manufacturers from Japan). Therefore, it is very important to consult with the jeans seller. Especially if the jeans are available in your city, it's a good idea to try them before buying.

2. Not Doing Research Before Buying

This relates to the first point, in finding suitable jeans, especially if you buy jeans from abroad, you should do some research about the jeans you are going to buy. This will help you decide based on what they like or don't like about the jeans.

Yes, in the end, it will all come back to you. There is nothing wrong with comparing the fabric and fit of jeans with one another. If one brand has several options, you can compare and choose which one suits you best.

3. Don't Know The Character Of The Jeans You Buy

This third point is also important for you to understand. For example, jeans that have a high density (high tension), although light, tend to feel hotter than jeans that are heavy but have a low density (low tension).

This is because the pores of jeans are wider in low-density jeans. If you live in a hot area, low-density jeans can be a consideration. Vice versa.

As another example, sanforized jeans will tend to shrink less than unsanforized jeans. This shrinkage and stretching were also influenced by the density in the first point. Momotaro is one of the brands that make unsanforized jeans (Vintage Label series), but the jeans don't stretch much.

Oni and Pure Blue Japan also make unsanforized jeans but the character is the opposite. This is because Momotaro uses high tension weave, while Oni and Pure Blue Japan use low tension weave.

4. Don't Understand How To Take Care Of Jeans

This also happens often, sometimes we are confused about what to do in the first soak or how to wash it properly. Actually, there are many references on how to wash or soak jeans, it's just a matter of how we react to the article.

A little flashback. Temperature, soaking time, and stirring, affect shrinkage during the soaking process. If you feel your jeans are quite fit on your body, you can soak them in cold water for 20-30 minutes. On the other hand, if you feel your jeans are too big, you can soak them in warm water for 40 minutes. If necessary, stir also by hand.

Just like the soaking process, the washing process is temperature-dependent. Hotter water causes the jeans to shrink more. Some articles say that warm water cleans jeans better because the jean’s molecules move faster, producing greater kinetic forces at higher temperatures. This also makes the indigo loss more than the use of cold water.

Well, those were some of the things you should pay attention to when you want to buy or use raw denim. Hopefully these tips can be useful for you denim lovers.
