A VISIONARY'S SOCIETY

A journey of self-realization is a journey of riches. I have come to witness this firsthand, as my former high school classmate and colleague rose to complete self-reliance through the creation of his lifestyle clothing brand, “VISIONARY SOCIETY”. It is a clothing brand that exudes trendy contemporary looks, that is attractive to all ages and ethnicities. Diosdado Sima the creator of this brand for sure was inspired by his rugged environment in which we grew up in and turned his unique way of dressing into a creative way of assembling clothing that everyone seemed to appreciate. His environment served him more as a creative outlook than hindrance, and I believe this is what allowed him to succeed. I have read about so many powerful black innovators and creators of many sorts, but it is always a little special when you can sincerely witness someone’s growth on a local level, as they expand to a global level. Now that is what inspires me the most. His success is so close to home, I cannot help but imagine that I can accomplish the same accolades and provide a solid role model for more future black creators to come in our communities. For many of times, Dio worked alone, isolated determined to bring his vision to light.

Diosdado started meniscal, printing t-shirts for his fraternity that were designed himself. Any source of income that came into his possession, were not used for immediate pleasure; he purchased tools needed for his trade and success. He built momentum by printing t-shirts custom made for our community. At first due to his popularity and prices, others fought with Dio about discounts, however Dio found a way to meet everyone halfway without compromising his own worth. He knew he needed to create affordable clothing but promised himself that for long jeopardy purposes, he would continue generating top notch clothing pieces. These were not your average printed shirts, Dio, went to great lengths creating high quality knitted, embroidery work, that were both attractive and comfortable. He began to host fashion events, that also were community based, but eloquently put together that even attracted the attention of one of Music’s biggest Moguls, Sean Combs.

He continued to work with city officials and local schools creating artistic events, while expanding his brand in the most positive light ever. Dio taught me one thing through his success, and that consistency is king. I whole heartedly believe that every person, despite their situation, advantage or disadvantage has a peculiar genius that resides within them. The trick to revealing this genius is consistency in letting everything externally motivate you, that you make seek to control yourself internally. By studying yourself, you learn what your weaknesses and strengths are, and if you are vigilant enough the law of attraction reveals to you your special talent. I also believe that for every unfortunate event, there is the equivalent seed of potential success, if the right perspective is applied. Dio is a living embodiment of this principle as a young black entrepreneur and artistic creator. He never considered himself a victim in any circumstance he may have faced and looked at every single challenge, as an opportunity to get better and become more strategic towards his goals. He realized that the best way to spread his influence was to slowly infect groups of people, that they would spread his influence for him indirectly and directly. Dio was always thinking in these special ways, always trying to overwhelm people with his positivity.

These days the playing field can only be leveled by one’s own mind. I could go on and on about the disadvantages African Americans may face, but when we have so many examples of prominent black professionals and entrepreneurs rising far above their situations, obtaining wealth and happiness, I cannot help but feel invigorated and driven to taste my own success. The ability to inspire others to work towards their own greatness, is unique and truly the universal goal. So many artist and creators feel a wall between themselves and their due accolades, because of their communities, family disfunctions, possible disabilities or worldly views. I say all these things may exist, but who cares! As a black man, I refuse to wallop in sorrow, and I will strive to create timeless artistic creations myself. One of my side goals is to collaborate with Dio and create a men’s fall collection, inspired by the average active working man. A hustler’s spirit will always inspire another’s hustler’s spirit. Acts of good will always inspire acts of good in other people, especially when it is done by someone who is like you. I not only want to create with Dio but will also like to create a safe space for black artist to work and collaborate with resources geared towards upward mobility.

Dio now has a full online shop with many extraordinary luxury pieces. He is looking to build flagship stores in the future. He continues to expand on his catalog and through his social media also encourages healthy habits and encourages others to chase their aspirations, no matter the obstacles that may be placed in front of them. Dio was not always heavily supported and he would probably admit that a lot of people have started to endorse him now that other celebrities have started buying into him, but that is the beauty of understanding people and your own worth. Sometimes it takes someone else shining a little light somewhere, for other people to begin paying attention.
