Not every business takes off. Every entrepreneur knows this. It is the unfortunate risk that comes with starting any business, nobody knows for sure how it will go. Everybody of course puts their best forward and tries their best but sometimes, the efforts just don't work out in the way we think.

A number of Nigerian celebrities over the years have tried to dabble into the fashion industry. Some have thrived and continue to find big success in the market. However, some have crashed along the way. Today, we'll be counting down 7 Nigerian Celebrities Whose Clothing Lines Crashed Along The Way.

1. Jim Iyke

Outfit from Untamed Closet

In 2011, Nollywood actor Jim Iyke launched his clothing line "Untamed Closet". The business was supposed to cater to teens, adults, and the corporate world. It launched and they had their store in Abuja.

However, today, the business no longer stands. Their website domain untamedclosets.com is now up for sale and the last tweet from the line's Twitter page was in March of 2012.

2. Chika Ike

Outfit from Fancy Nancy Boutique

In 2011, Nollywood actress Chika Ike opened up a boutique in Abuja called Fancy Nancy. The boutique sold clothing and accessories. The brand was heavily promoted with Chika Ike doing regular photoshoots to promote the line as well as publicizing it through different avenues.

Unfortunately, now in 2022, nothing is to be found about Fancy Nancy. Chika's Instagram bio which constitutes all her current businesses has no mention of Fancy Nancy - only her film studio, Flipscript Studios, her real estates company, Flipscript Homes, and her cosmetics brand, Chika Cosmetics. No Fancy Nancy to be found.

3. Damilola Adegbite

Outfit from KASHAM by Adedamee

In 2019, Nollywood actress Damilola Adegbite excitedly announced the launch of her clothing line KASHAM By Adedamee. She wrote on Instagram that day:

Finally, by the grace of him alone who is the source of my strength, my new clothing store for women is open and ready to serve you queens!?? Please visit us on Road 3, Ikota shopping complex beside Victoria Garden City Lekki, and follow our Instagram page @kashambyadedamee for the most simple yet elegant pieces, to constantly remind you of just how BEAUTIFUL and STRONG you are! I look forward to seeing you soon.

Today the Instagram page for the business no longer exists and when you search up the business on Google, it shows that it is closed.

4. Mo Cheddah

Outfit from Mo Cheddah Clothing

Nigerian singer Mo Cheddah launched a clothing line in 2016 called Mocheddah Clothing. During her launch, Mo Cheddah said:

I want everyone to be able to express themselves through fashion without having to break the bank.” says the super stylish songstress; “In creating my first collection, I put together fun and flirty pieces that I love and often look out for when shopping for myself.

Fans of the singer were directed to place their orders at mocheddah.co, however, the website mocheddah.co is now defunct and this clothing line with it.

5. Anita Okoye

Anita in magazine story for Tannk Co.

Fashion entrepreneur Anita Okoye in 2019 launched a clothing line for kids called Tannk Co. It was marketed as an affordable kids fashion line and Anita promoted the business heavily.

Unfortunately, last year, the website stopped working and is currently still down. Also on the official Instagram page of the business, the last post says "we will be back shortly". That post was uploaded on June 30, 2021.

6. Genevieve Nnaji

Outfit from St. Genevieve

Genevieve Nnaji in 2014 partnered up with mega online retailer Jumia to re-launch her St. Genevieve Clothing Line. St. Genevieve was Genevieve's clothing line and it consisted of easy to wear pieces. The launch party of the line saw celebrities from across the nation like Stephanie Linus, Oluchi Orlandi, and more come out to celebrate the line's release.

Now, in 2022, St. Genevieve is absolutely nowhere to found. The business didn't take off. In fact the only sign to show that it ever existed is a lone shirt on the Jumia website, a round neck chiffon top which as you can imagine, is out of stock. The line is no longer in production.

7. Lilian Bach

One actress you may not have been seeing you on screen for quite some time now is Nollywood actress Lilian Bach. Lilian opened a lingerie store called Curiosity Underwears and had been quietly selling her lingerie there.

Unfortunately, during the protests of last year, the business was heavily looted and destroyed as posted by Lilian on her social media pages.

Despite the fact that these celebrity fashion lines crashed, all 7 of these celebrities are still wildly successful and still thriving. It just goes to show that just because one door closes, it doesn't mean that life is over. Another door will surely open eventually.
