The Invasion

A Date to live in Infamy

The Fleet

Fleet Admiral David Jones, affectionately called Davy Jones by his men stood on the flight deck of his flagship, the Fleet Carrier DNS Gordon B. Hinckley, the pride of the Deseret Navy and peered through the early morning fog. He could see flashes and heard the muffled thump of artillery from the nearby DNS Idaho and DNS Utah, heavy cruisers sailing nearby. He could barely see them through the fog, despite their close proximity to him. He groaned and cursed the fog, "Blast this damn fog!" He muttered. He turned to see the Poseidon reconnaissance plane sitting on the catapult, waiting for permission to launch. His aide discreetly thrust a tablet towards him which the Admiral looked at, he grunted as the tablet showed positions of the invading force, "They are nearly at the beaches, God go with those boys." He said as the Poseidon took off with a whine and thump, he watched as the plane climbed before disappearing into the fog. The deck quickly came alive as crews began moving the F18 Super Hornets to the catapults for launch.

Captain Smith was tired, this war was taking too many men, good men, brave men. He sighed as the hovercraft skimmed across the waves towards the beaches, he looked down his side of the craft and saw his men were likewise tired, they had answered the call out of high school 7 long years ago, he sighed again, has it really been that long? Seven years? They first went to Wyoming to defend the West from the Fascist American Forces from the collapsing US government intent on forcing America under a dictatorship. They held the line alongside cowboys and ranchers, a true American army. But then Mexico fell apart and Venezuela took advantage by invading and laying waste to Dallas and Houston before being stopped by Confederate States of America at the Mississippi River, Smith and his boys were rushed south to save Texas and they ended up chasing Venezuelan forces clear to Mexico City before stopping, but sadly their duties did not stop then, for the Deseret government, in all their wisdom allied with Brazil, so Smith and his boys packed their bags and flew to join their Brazilian allies in the jungles of the Amazon to help defend against Venezuela.

Then just as they thought the last 6 years of heavy fighting was over, they received orders to fly to Portland to board transports, but now Smith and his men have left the transports and are now racing to the beaches. He watched his men finish letters home, pray or chat with fellow brothers, in front of him, sitting side by side sat two powerful M1A2 Abrams Main Battle Tanks, sitting like sleeping giants, he followed the turret to the main body and identified the various guns that he hoped will help protect his men from the worst of the fire, but he stared sadly at the tank, knowing that they would be targeted and eliminated early in the battle. He prayed for the souls inside the tanks. He heard the soft hum of a song, too soft to hear the words, but slowly the song grew louder as more men began singing it,

*Onward Christian soldiers!

*Marching as to war!

*Carrying the cross of Jesus

*Going on before Christ, the Royal Master!

Leads before the Foe, Forward into battle, See his banners go!

Captain Smith smiled, the famed Mormon Corps of the Deseret Armed Forces is now ready to face the full might of the armies of F.E.A.R, the Federated Euro-Asian Republic, and Smith knew it would be a date that would live forever, like D-Day and the Normandy invasion in World War 2. Fifty years from now, his own children and grandchildren would talk about this day, April 20th, 2025 as the day their ancestors fought a bloody war to save the world from a mad man and this day marked the beginning of that long and bloody war.
