Poetry on Nature!

Whether one is watching a thrilling thunderstorm or looking up at a mighty tree, the experience of nature is one of awe.

One cannot help but marvel at the intricate design of a single leaf, or the roar of a great waterfall. (familyfriendpoems.com)

Nature is for us always in the background! As I write these words. The wind is merrily displaying his mighty power. Happily playing his games with the branches and their leaves. Knocking leaves, buds and flowers blissfully to the ground. Like petals blessing a couple on their wedding day.

Showing off to us his mighty and awesome power. He roars and whistles on our rooftops. He has chased away many of our beautiful birds from our gardens. Their songs he has silenced. Mischievously he has replaced their songs with his mighty whistling and rustling.

He overpowers all other sounds. Or! So, it seems. The birds are still singing their songs of love and happiness. Just not as many and at a further distance.

The neighbor’s cat is meowing in harmony. Other than man-made noise. And, such annoying noise, it is. There appears to be silence. Our new friend, the mighty wind. He has mysteriously brushed away all other sounds of nature.

The mighty Kookaburra did not wake us this morning. Is she snuggled protectively in her woodland nest? Sheltered from the mighty gusts and the whistling of his power.

We enjoy the welcome change. Tomorrow we will rake the leaves. Today we thrill to his gusts, whistles and rustling of the leaves. He too has a purpose. To blow away the dead and dying leaves of each tree, bush and flower. Leaving room for the new and young to flourish and grow. To blow the newborn seeds to all the points of the compass.

So new trees, bushes, beautiful flowers and exotic plants can grow. In parts distant from their parents. He blows mightily. To blow the cobwebs from branches and twigs. To blow cobwebs from our minds. He blows! Speaking secrets we yearn to learn. Secrets once hidden in the heart of God. Secrets of love and hope spoken to our hearts from God our Heavenly Father.

Where he comes from. To where he goes. We will never know. We can only dream. We are thankful for his cleansing and calming presence.

What else is there to heal our troubled hearts? Oh! Yes, the glimpse of a rare and exotic Rosella up there in her protected nest. Safe and sound in the thick cover of the branches of our acacia bush. Such gentle yellows, greens, blues and reds. She, on other days, sings and frolics with her playmates.

Today, she alone is here to greet us. She alone is brave enough to face head-on the mighty wind.

Her bravery! Her courage! Her love for life! Heals and soothes our troubled and restless hearts. She playfully pecks at the few blossoms left high in her branches.

To her life is great still. To her life is as it should be. She is not bothered by the wind’s gusts and his mighty blowing. He annoys her not. She is at peace. She is living life as she should.

What else do we spot? Do we hear? Above the wind’s mighty gusts. Yes, the call of a Bower Bird. Calling for her mate. It is not a call of alarm. Oh! No. To her, a windy day is just another day in her many days of wonder. To her, a windy day is just another reason to sing her melody of love.

We pause to hear his reply. And, yes, a soft and sweet song of love is his response. Blown ever closer because of the mighty power of our wind.

What other gift does the blustering wind have to give us on this oh! Such a special day? Oh! Yes, the fragrance of so many flowers. Their individual aromas are mixed by his gusts. Makes their essence so much more enticing.

The petals as they fall. Blow in our hair and settle. Is today and day of magic? Our answer. Yes! Our friend, the mighty and powerful wind. He has cast his spell. He has waved his wand of magic. Our troubled hearts are blown clean once more. Our troubles are blown to distant parts. Far, far away!

Who would have thought? Who would have guessed? The power and might of our friend, the wind would have such healing. Such comforting and soothing powers. We listen differently now somehow to his blustering. We harken differently now somehow to his rustling in the branches. He blows to soothe, calm, comfort and heal.

God, our Creator God soothes, calms and comforts our troubled hearts. Through the awe, wonder and majesty of all of His creations. When we pause our busyness. We are transported to a place of peace and love. When we allow ourselves to really and truly become one with God’s gift — Nature. We become one with God, Himself.

In Genesis chapter three God’s Word tells us, “And out of the ground made I, the Lord God, to grow every tree, naturally, that is pleasant to the sight of man; and man could behold it. And it became also a living soul.” (verse 9) This is such a miracle. God’s gift of wonder to us, is, that. Each living thing “became also a living soul.” This is how, when we are truly one with nature. We become one with our Creator God.

When we truly attune our spirits with the living soul within the bird, tree and mountain that surround us. We learn how to be genuinely in tune with our Creator. This is a gift of grace that holds such healing powers.

Martin Luther stated, “God writes the Gospel not in the Bible alone, but also on trees, and in the flowers and clouds and stars.”

As we pause our busyness. As we focus on nature. As we seek the living soul within each tree, bush, flower, bird, animal and mountain. As we see God our Creator in all of God’s creations. We draw close to God and God our Father draws close to us.

"Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you." (James 4:8a, ESV)

We feel God within each of His creations. As we focus on the rustling of the wind. We lose ourselves, just for a little while. We leave ourselves in the tender, gracious and merciful hand of our Lord.

For His invisible attributes, namely, His eternal power and divine nature, are clearly perceived, "ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So, they are without excuse." (Romans 1:20, ESV)

Our troubles. Our heartaches are blown away, into distant parts. Simply because we have focused on the living souls that are within each bird that sings in our gardens. Our hearts are at peace. Because we glimpse for a moment the living soul in the tree whose branches the Lorikeet has made her safe and cozy home.

Our spirits feel a true connection to God’s Spirit. His Holy Spirit of comfort, help and peace speaks to us.

God the Holy Spirit speaks to us. As we harken to the living souls all around us.

An attitude of sincere and genuine gratitude replaces sorrow.

We bask in this newly found aliveness that God has granted us.

God’s majestic creations greet us each day.

We delight in the glory of His creations — Nature.

The healing power of the living soul within each living creature has a power beyond measure.

We are captivated! We are enthralled by God’s nature!
