David LasherPublished 7 years ago in ProofThe Best Cocktail at Chicago’s Duck Inn
The Duck Inn is a fairly new yet celebrated spot on Chicago’s Near South Side. The restaurant features a menu with a heavy local focus, and the backyard patio is an unexpected delight. They also have some of the friendliest and most talented bartenders in the city, including a woman named Monika and the award-winning head bartender, Brandon (who doesn’t play into this story at all but still deserves a mention). On our budget, The Duck Inn is best reserved for special occasions, but we try to spend our money locally, and so end up there perhaps more often than we should.

Regional drinks are an interesting cultural phenomenon across the United States. The South has its bizarre Cheerwine, and my friends in Michigan will defend Faygo to the death. And we’re just talking about non-alcoholic drinks — for the purposes of this conversation, we’re not even touching on the craziness of limited edition, regional exclusive craft beers.
Cherise ThreewittPublished 7 years ago in ProofI Put Balsamic in My Cocktails and You Should, Too.
Too often, I find myself in my kitchen trying to recreate a cocktail from a bar or restaurant and it just straight-up misses the mark. No matter how closely I watch the bartender, or how much he or she was willing to share information about the craft as my drink was being prepared, some homemade replicas just fall flat. Too sweet, not enough dimension, not enough mouthfeel. At that point, there’s not much I can do to save it… so I simply go in another direction.

Low Calorie Summer Cocktails
Dieting isn't easy, especially if you love to party and drink the night away. After all, if there's one thing that can kill a diet faster than a trip to an all you can eat buffet, it's drinking.
Lynne ShumakerPublished 7 years ago in Proof Drinking Like a Champion
For those of us who drink, we usually either tend to go to a full extreme or not partake at all. There are a small number of people who actually use that weird little word some of us know as "moderation", and it's those people who tend to do hold themselves better. But in the end, we should just face the cold hard truth. If you are going to drink, then you should drink like a champion and be smart at the same time. And most people think "Oh! I get hangovers and whatnot when I drink" but trust me about this one, there is a way around most of this but we will get to that later. (It's most certainly worth the wait.)
Chris CoriPublished 7 years ago in ProofThe Best Bars in NYC for Summer
A quick glance at the clock tells you it's 5:45 pm. No one is responding to email requests or phone calls now, let's face facts, the rest of New York has probably already gone home. To hell with it, you're switching off your monitor. There's no issue or inquiry that might arise between now and the time it takes you to get to the elevator that can't possibly wait until tomorrow. Stepping outside you see the sun hangs low in the sky, that's nice – but more importantly, you need a drink. It's the only way the problems and predicaments of the last eight hours can be safely dealt with. Right, where to go...

10 Things I Learned from 30 Days of Not Drinking
Mocktails will save your life. As a casual wine drinker (it's 5 o'clock somewhere), I had to immediately find a substitute beverage for my evenings and social events. Sparkling water became my go-to, either alone or with juices and fresh or frozen fruit (still served in a wine glass for old times' sake). La Croix and cranberry-apple is my staple, but don't forget about smoothies and any (virgin) summer cocktail. When out at the bars, soda water and a lime will keep anyone from asking you where your drink is.
Brooklyn HughesPublished 7 years ago in Proof Health Benefits of Champagne
Wine and beer have been known to be great for one's health, as long as it's in moderation. Regular beer drinking has been shown to be great for creativity, digestive health, and even bone. Wine, on the other hand, has been famous for helping to delay aging, fighting free radicals, and more. Even vodka has been cited as great for health—or, at least, great as a disinfectant.
Mackenzie Z. KennedyPublished 7 years ago in ProofThemed Cocktails
Themed cocktails are big now – really big. This is particularly true among geeks who enjoy cocktails named after their favorite characters and drinks featured in movies, TV shows, and books. In fact, there are bars that are famous for serving themed cocktails to movie fans, just because they are so popular.
