SUCCESS BEING LUCK AND HARD WORK

No one new that small boy from the town of Bugalota in the pearl of Africa (Uganda) could one day become somebody.

The is a story about a boy who got to fame although he was from a poor background as the saying goes, we are born with nothing in this world only our body mind and soul and all the abundances that nature gives area all free but it takes carriage and the brave once to achieve all that are there in life. Some people say it is luck that have come their way, others say it is hard work that pays and the question is what do you believe in is it luck or hard work, you don’t need to answer the question because I am about to take you through how all this can come about.

I grew up in a family of four boys in the village of Bugalota and I am the last born in the family. There lives a young boy called Benson Onyango, in our early days back in the 1990s life was all about camp fire stories, oldies music and dancing and Onyango was our neighbor’s son and the first born in the family, his father was the leader of the village dancing group called the ‘’Abia Boys’’ and he could play all the instruments from drums, xylophone, saxophones, and other traditional instrument, every Tuesdays there would be a traditional galler or dance competition where all the members from different villages come together and compete for a price in form of money, domestic animals such as goats and cows, Onyango was always with his father and his father loved him so much they say once you stay too long where they slaughter animals one day you will start slaughtering animals and Onyango was destined to be somebody one. Dance competition attracted hundreds of people from all part of the state, Onyango and I were the same age and one evening as I recalled as we could play and go to school together it was our primary leaving examination and we had just finish our last paper and was on a Friday as we come back from school we passed by the market square where the traditional galler was place and Onyango’s father was on stage with his group and he called Onyango to go and join him on stage and with the excitement of finishing the exams Onyango didn’t hesitate as he used to but all of sudden he started singing to the tune of the drum which was being played and to the amazement of everybody the crowd went wild people were singing along to Onyango’s song and on that day the village chief and his guest from the city were attending the galler, that was how Onyango’s success story started, after the performance Onyangos father was amazed and so happy he came and hug his son and said to him I never knew you had something in you but now I know you that you have taken your fathers footstep and you will make our family proud. That evening many people came to praise Onyango and his father and among the people who came was a gentlemen from the city who promotes music talents from the grass root level and he came to Onyangos father the following day and said that he has seen a big talent his son and he would like to take his talent to the next level. This was the beginning of Onyango’s singing career. Onyango started singing long before that day because he was always singing in class, on the way back from school and when bathing and when he reached primary seven he started writing songs and by the end of primary seven he had written over fifty songs using his own words and as the saying goes talent do not grow on trees Onyango had it in him. He left for the city and went to stay with his uncle while attending school he started recording his music in the city and today we hear his voice on the radio and watch him on the television station children in our village sing to his song and they are so proud of him. His father went to the city to stay with him in his own apartment and if you ask me how success come about I would say its hard work at all times and luck in just a few times, so go along with life and plan for your success knowing that hard work will be the number one way to achieve that goal you have set.
