Today is not only Tuesday, but National Margarita Day, and who couldn’t use a margarita on a Tuesday?? As one of the most popular national food and beverage holidays of the year, millions gather around and celebrate the love of tequila and lime. With many continuing to social distance or just preferring to play bartender, there are an endless number of options when it comes to making the perfect margarita. From flavors including chili-infused tequila to blueberry ginger and even cactus fruit, this list of margarita recipes will have you feeling like you’re drinking in paradise.

Cookie and Kate

Skinny Margarita

For those who love the basic margarita, but without all the extra sugar added, then this is the perfect recipe.

Kate of Cookie+Kate created the perfect margarita using agave as an alternative sweetener, but the real secret? Skipping the Cointreau/orange liqueur altogether and replacing it with freshly squeezed orange juice. “The difference is remarkable.” She even tested it out on a couple of friends that came to visit. “I poured the margaritas into their glasses and awaited their reactions,” she said. “Their eyes lit up on the first sip, and each proclaimed, “No really, this is the best margarita I’ve ever had!” At 187 calories per drink and a cocktail that uses the freshest of ingredients, I’d say it can’t get any better than that.

Rose Petal Margarita

With Valentine’s Day having just passed, some are still experiencing love lingering in the air, and what better way to bring both together than with a rose petal margarita? It contains rose-infused tequila, rose syrup, and charcoal syrup (giving the drink its gray color). Even with its mysterious color, the sweet and floral flavor of the rose is perfect for a happy hour cocktail with that special someone.

Retox Cocktail

If you’ve ever heard of the Master Cleanse (Lemonade Diet), you know the fad diet involves one drinking a mixture of water, lemon juice, maple syrup, and cayenne pepper. Sother Teague, the beverage director at New York Bitters turned the diet cleanse into an opportunity to enjoy a cocktail with his own version of the recipe (substituting cayenne pepper for jalapenos).

Cactus Fruit Cocktails

Drinking a fancy cocktail with tequila can make us feel like we’re on vacation (or at least dream of it). This is where cactus fruit cocktails come in. Prickly pears (liquified), lime, triple sec, and tequila are the base of the drink, creating a sweet and sour cocktail that is the happiest of all hours.

The Borderline Escape

Depending on the season, if you can find cantaloupe, it is the perfect concoction with tequila and lime juice. Don’t forget to prep the rim on your glass to get the spicy, sweet, salty addition that goes so perfectly with the sweetness of the cantaloupe. The borderline escape will make you feel as if you’re eating fresh fruit in Mexico.

If these drinks don’t make you feel like you’re on vacation, I don’t know what will. Between the different varieties of flavors, there’s bound to be something for everyone. If you’re like me, you might just have to try a few recipes out. After all, it is National Margarita Day and Tuesday. Making it this far into the week, I’d say that we’ve done a pretty good job.
