An umbrella keeps us dry by blocking rainwater from falling on our body
An umbrella is light and easy to carry anywhere during bad weather

One hot summer morning, a little boy named Sami woke up very early. The sun was already shining brightly through his bedroom window. The air felt warm, and the birds outside were singing happily. Sami stretched his arms and looked outside. The sky was clear blue without a single cloud.
“Today will be a very hot day,” his mother said while preparing breakfast in the kitchen.
Sami loved summer, but sometimes the heat outside became too strong. The sunlight made the roads hot, and walking under the burning sun was not easy. Still, Sami wanted to play outside with his friends.
After breakfast, Sami quickly wore his favorite blue shirt and white shoes. He picked up his football and ran to the door. Just then, his mother called him back.
“Sami, wait!” she said.
She handed him a large yellow umbrella.
Sami looked surprised. “But Mother,” he said, “it is not raining outside.”
His mother smiled gently. “An umbrella is not only for rain,” she explained. “It also protects us from strong sunlight and heat when we walk outside.”
Sami had never thought about that before. He opened the yellow umbrella and looked at its wide, round shape. It made a cool shadow over his head and shoulders.
“Thank you, Mother,” Sami said happily.
As he stepped outside, the hot sunlight touched the streets like fire. Some people were covering their faces with their hands because the sun was too bright. Others walked slowly because of the heat. But Sami felt cooler under his umbrella.
On his way to the playground, he met his friend Ali sitting under a tree.
“You brought an umbrella?” Ali laughed.
“Yes,” Sami answered proudly. “It protects me from the hot sun.”
Ali wiped sweat from his forehead. “Maybe your mother is right,” he admitted.
The boys walked together toward the playground. Sami stayed comfortable under the umbrella while Ali became hotter and hotter. Soon, Ali’s face turned red from the heat.
“I wish I had an umbrella too,” Ali said.
At the playground, many children were trying to play, but the strong sunlight made them tired quickly. The metal slide had become too hot to touch. Even the swings felt warm.
Sami opened his umbrella wider and sat beneath it. A cool shadow covered the ground. Some younger children came and sat beside him.
“This feels much better,” one little girl said.
Sami smiled kindly. He felt happy sharing the shade with others.
After some time, the boys became thirsty and decided to buy cold juice from a small shop nearby. The road to the shop was long and sunny. Sami walked comfortably under the umbrella, while Ali tried to stay close to the shadow.
At the shop, the owner smiled when he saw Sami.
“That umbrella is very useful today,” the shopkeeper said. “The sun is stronger than usual.”
Sami nodded proudly. “My mother told me umbrellas can protect us from sunlight and heat.”
The shopkeeper agreed. “A good umbrella is like a small moving shelter.”
The boys bought orange juice and drank it slowly. The cold drink made them feel fresh again.
As they walked back, they saw an old man carrying heavy bags. He looked tired and weak under the hot sun. Sweat covered his face.
Without thinking twice, Sami ran toward him and held the umbrella above the old man’s head.
“Please walk with us,” Sami said politely.
The old man smiled warmly. “Thank you, young boy. The sun today is very strong.”
Together they walked slowly until they reached the man’s house. Before leaving, the old man blessed Sami for his kindness.
“You have a good heart,” he said. “And you used your umbrella wisely.”
Sami felt proud and happy.
When evening finally arrived, the weather became cooler. Sami returned home tired but cheerful. His mother opened the door and smiled when she saw him still carrying the yellow umbrella.
“So,” she asked, “did the umbrella help you today?”
“Yes, Mother,” Sami answered excitedly. “It protected me from the strong sunlight and heat. It kept me cool, and I even shared it with my friends and an old man.”
His mother gently patted his head. “That is wonderful. Useful things become even more special when we use them to help others.”
That night, Sami placed the yellow umbrella carefully beside his bed. Before sleeping, he looked at it with new respect. He now understood that an umbrella was not only for rainy days. It could also protect people from the hot sun and make walking outside safer and more comfortable.
From that day onward, whenever the summer sun shined too strongly, Sami never forgot to carry his bright yellow umbrella.
