Last Kiss from You?

A First Date Triptych: Part Three

By Savannah K. WilsonPublished 2 years ago • 1 min read
a day that wasn't the day I waited for

It wasn't supposed to go this way

We were meant to have longer

Of course it went not to plan

Even without 'planning' the day

Our plan still fell apart

...

Finished cupcakes

Finally I could hold your hand

Finally, after so long being only a screen

Finally I could see your beauty

Just as we found our rhythm

Shed our nerves, awkwardness fading

Just then ... it all had to end, you had to leave

A Family thing ...

'I don't want to but I think I need to'

Holding back my unexpected tears

'I understand ... you need to go'

Why did it hit so hard?

After such little time with you

It hurt to say goodbye so soon

I wouldn't cry in front of you

I would not make you feel worse

...

Packing the car ... I would not cry

Driving me home ... I would not cry

Kissing me goodbye ... I almost cried

Once you were gone, and I was alone ...

The River Styx pales in sadness to my flowing tears

...

Will we ever get another day?

I am owed a day by the universe!

I want my time over ... our time

I need to see you ...

When do I get cupcakes again?
